At CAM, we believe “good” is never good enough. We aim for excellence in everything we do, and we’re looking for individuals who share that same drive, take pride in their work, and thrive in a collaborative, high-performance environment.

If you are passionate about driving project success, optimizing cost control, and ensuring schedule integrity, we invite you to join our dynamic team.

The Senior Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for comprehensive Project Control Management, including the development, monitoring, and analysis of cost and schedule throughout the project lifecycle. This role will collaborate closely with internal teams, field contractors, and key stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting, effective risk mitigation, and data-driven decision-making. In addition, this position may involve overseeing a team of site-based Project Controls Specialists, ensuring alignment with project objectives and fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment.

Based in the Edmonton office, this role follows a hybrid work schedule with three in-office days per week (Tuesday to Thursday). Occasional travel to site will be required as needed to support project success.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Track project costs, validate invoices, and ensure accurate coding and allocation.
  • Develop cost reports, expenditure profiles, and financial forecasts, including variance analysis.
  • Identify and escalate potential cost overruns or savings opportunities.
  • Work with field teams and stakeholders to understand incurred costs and ensure alignment with budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide estimating support and assist other departments in internal cost management.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Work closely with project teams to monitor progress, risks, and resource allocation.
  • Identify schedule deviations, recommend corrective actions, and support risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure cost and schedule alignment for accurate financial forecasting.
  • Prepare and present weekly and ad hoc project reports to senior leadership and clients.
  • Generate graphs, summary tables, and presentations for project performance analysis.
  • Act as a key liaison between project managers, site teams, and client stakeholders.
  • Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and collaborate with teams to improve execution.
  • Assist project managers in scope definition, verification, and change control to maintain project financial health.
  • Develop templates, policies, and procedures to support the Gating Controls Process.
  • Predict obstacles, challenges, and risks to proactively determine mitigation strategies and innovative solutions.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in Project Controls, Cost Control, or Project Management within industrial projects.
  • Strong background in maintenance, turnarounds, or capital projects.
  • University degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Finance/Accounting, or a related field (other post-secondary education may be considered).
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI, Power Pivot, and Oracle/SAP.
  • Ability to distill large data sets into actionable insights and executive-level reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Highly organized with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
