Job summary

Lycopodium is seeking a Project Accountant to oversee contracts, billing, and financial reporting for multiple projects in Mississauga. You will partner with Project Managers to manage budgets, forecasts, and profitability, while ensuring compliance and timely close.

The role requires strong analytical skills, 5+ years in project accounting, and proficiency with Excel and ERP systems. Travel to project locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA enrollment or progress toward designation is an asset.
• 5+ years of relevant accounting experience in a project-based environment.
• Experience in construction, engineering, consulting, infrastructure, or project-driven industries is an asset.
• Experience with project accounting and financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, billing, cost analysis, and month-end activities.
• Strong ability to analyze financial data and translate findings into actionable insights.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience with project accounting or ERP systems is an asset.
• Ability to collaborate with operational and project teams in a hands-on environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and a highly organized approach.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Willingness to travel to assigned project locations as required.

Responsibilities

About the Opportunity

• Manage project-related contracts, purchase orders, billing, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, customers, and internal teams regarding billing, payments, documentation, and compliance requirements.
• Partner with Project Managers and operational teams to manage project budgets, costing, change orders, forecasts, and financial performance.
• Monitor project costs against budget and investigate significant variances or unexpected expenses.
• Review project expenses and identify items that may be non-recoverable or require further investigation.
• Manage accounts receivable activities and collections for assigned projects.
• Review and maintain project-related accounts payable and receivable records.
• Prepare monthly project billings and supporting documentation in accordance with contractual requirements.
• Develop a strong understanding of project agreements and ensure financial requirements are accurately reflected in billing and reporting.
• Lead project accounting activities including reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, and month-end close.
• Work with project teams to develop and maintain project spend plans and forecasts.
• Participate in regular project reviews to validate costs to complete, forecast-at-completion, revenue, profitability, and other key financial metrics.
• Challenge project financial assumptions and identify potential risks, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
• Assess financial risks and opportunities and support the ongoing maintenance of project risk and action plans.
• Review invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and other financial documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Analyze project cost information and identify opportunities for improved financial performance and cost control.
• Prepare project financial reports, including profitability, cash flow, forecasting, and other management reporting.
• Provide regular financial updates and insights to Project Managers and senior leadership.
• Maintain complete and organized project financial records throughout the project lifecycle and through closeout.
• Support project and contract closeout activities.
• Ensure financial transactions and documentation comply with contractual, organizational, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support external audits, year-end activities, and periodic financial reporting, including preparation of supporting schedules and working papers.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, and operational teams where contractual or financial issues require resolution.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting.
• Respond to customer and internal stakeholder requests related to project financial matters.
• Perform other duties and financial analysis as assigned.

About You

Salary Range
