Job summary

Spyder Controls in Lacombe, AB, and McBride, BC, seeks an experienced software professional to design and deliver scalable code across embedded and GUI-focused platforms. Qualifications

• Legally entitled to live and work in Canada.
• 5+ years of software development experience.
• Strong command of C or C++.
• Experience in embedded system programming.
• GUI development experience.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience with SQL, API frameworks, and code versioning tools.
• Knowledge of graphic design aptitude.
• Familiarity with CAN Bus Protocol.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and architect clean, high quality, scalable code for our product suite.
• Embedded System Programming (Backend & Frontend).
• Identify problems, propose solutions, implement them, and document.
• Design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, and test existing and new software.
• Collaborate with management, stakeholders, and project team to refine scope and plan.
• Plan and organize work; direct multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Handle other related projects or tasks as assigned by Spyder Controls.

Job description

Compensation will range from $75,000 – $120,000 per year depending on applicant education, experience, credentials and performance. A benefits package (including Pooled Insurance benefits, a Health Spending Account, TFSA or RRSP matching, and paid sick leave) will be provided after the probationary period is completed.

Full-Time

Monday to Thursday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

All times Mountain Time (MT).

This position is open at each of the locations listed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and architect clean, high quality, scalable code to our suite of products that is well-structured readable, testable, and performant
• Embedded System Programming (Backend & Frontend)
• Identify problems, propose suitable solutions, implement the solutions, and maintain documentation
• Design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, and test existing software systems and new applications
• Collaborate with management, stakeholders, and project team members to refine project scope, and define project plan
• Capable of planning and organizing work and processes; ability to direct multiple projects and meet deadlines
• On occasion, some travel could be required
• Position may also include other related projects, or other tasks as required by Spyder Controls

Required skills & qualifications

• Legally entitled to live and work in Canada
• 5+ years of software development work experience
• Excellent command of C or C++
• Understanding of or experience in embedded system programming
• High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
• Experience building graphical user interfaces
• Leadership, mentorship, communication, and organizational skills
• Maintain professionalism in the workplace, remains composed under pressure while meeting deadlines, maintaining regular schedule with occasional extended hours
• Applicant should have familiarity with or an understanding of various tools including:
• Eclipse / STM32CubeIDE
• VS Code/Visual Studio
• Git (GitHub specifically)
• Microsoft Office 365
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar
• Experience with SQL, API Frameworks and code versioning tools
• Knowledge of additional programming languages
• Aptitude and interest in graphic design
• CAN Bus Protocol
