Job summary

Valiant TMS is seeking a Senior PLC Programmer to design, program, and optimize control systems for advancing manufacturing solutions. You will collaborate with engineers and skilled trades to deliver projects, program PLCs, and validate systems at customer sites.

The role emphasizes working across disciplines, integrating smart devices, and driving continuous improvements while providing on-site training and travel to client locations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing, installing, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting automated equipment in industrial/manufacturing settings.
  • College or university program completed in Electrical Engineering/Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation or Robotic Studies.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Experience integrating PLC systems and devices across platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with mechanical and controls engineering teams through design, tryout and installation phases.
  • Program and debug PLC logic during build and at customer sites during installation.
  • Enhance control systems based on customer changes and manufacturing needs.
  • Configure and integrate smart devices (cameras, drives, nut runners) into projects.
  • Collect data from machines according to customer requirements and validate I/O signals.
  • Document all control logic changes with the engineering team and train end-users on-site.
  • Travel locally and internationally to client sites for on-site support.

In this role, you will work alongside a skilled group of professionals to design, program, and optimize control systems that drive cutting-edge manufacturing solutions. What you’ll get to do


  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work closely with mechanical and controls engineering experts, as well as skilled trades professionals, throughout the programming, tryout, and installation phases of projects.

  • PLC Programming and Debugging: Execute PLC logic and programming tasks during the build and debug stages at our facilities and at customer sites during installation and launch phases.

  • Enhance Control Systems: Introduce programming enhancements to controls and logic systems based on customer changes or evolving manufacturing requirements.

  • Smart Device Integration: Configure and set up smart devices such as cameras, nut runners, and drives, integrating them into active projects.

  • Data Management: Collect data from machines according to specific customer requirements.

  • System Validation: Identify and resolve system issues, conduct tryouts, and validate I/O signals and interference zones.

  • Documentation: Thoroughly document all control logic changes in collaboration with the engineering team.

  • End-User Training: Train PLC end-users at customer locations, providing guidance and support to ensure smooth operations.

  • Travel Support: Travel locally and internationally to customer sites to provide on-site assistance, ensuring successful project execution.


What we are looking for


  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in designing, installing, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic automated equipment in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Education: Completed College or university program in Electrical Engineering/Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, or Robotic Studies.

  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt work hours to accommodate customer production timelines when necessary.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with various software platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, and Omron and familiarity with integrating smart devices into automated systems.

  • Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. Travel to the USA will be required.

  • Travel Readiness: Flexibility to travel to customer sites, including international locations.

The expected hourly compensation for this position is $38.00-$45.00. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skillset, or location.
