Job summary

BGC Okanagan is seeking a full-time Senior Program Area Leader for our School Aged Child Care Program at Peter Greer Elementary in Lake Country, BC. Join a team where you supervise staff and deliver high-quality service to children and families.

The role requires a Diploma or certificate, 1 year related experience, First Aid, and Class 4 Driver’s Licence. Hours are 35 per week, Monday to Friday, 10:30am - 6:00pm, with a pay rate of $22.60 per hour and a comprehensive benefits plan.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate requirement for licensed programs.
  • 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health & safety, or nutrition.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate is required.
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and develop/implement/evaluate plans for children, youth, and families.
  • Serve as Licensed Manager per Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Supervise and mentor program staff to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide daily direction and feedback to staff and volunteers.
  • Directly supervise program members ensuring health and safety.
  • Create and distribute activity calendars for members and families.
  • Complete general administrative tasks including attendance data entry.
  • Orient new families and members to the program and Club.
  • Build relationships with children, youth and families and connect families to resources.
  • Provide group and/or individual behavior management and support.
  • Conduct monthly and weekly audits and inspections of participant files and spaces.
  • Ensure all policies, standards and safety requirements are followed by staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment to support program operations.

Education

Diploma or certificate in recreation, education, social services, or related field
Completion of 20 hours of coursework in child development, guidance, health and safety, nutrition
Minimum of 1 year of recent related experience
Valid First Aid Certificate
Class 4 Driver’s Licence

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned program, including developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating plans that meet the needs of children, youth, and families.
  • Serve as the Licensed Manager in accordance with Child Care Licensing Regulations, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise, mentor, guide, and lead program staff, when applicable, to support high-quality service delivery.
  • Provide daily direction and performance feedback to program staff and volunteers.
  • Directly supervise program members, ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being.
  • Create and distribute program activity calendars for members and families.
  • Complete general administrative tasks, including data entry for attendance and calendars.
  • Orient new families and members to the program and the Club.
  • Build relationships with the children, youth, and families within their designated programs. Establishes open communication with parents/caregivers. Identifies families who require additional support and connects them with appropriate resources.
  • Provides group and/or individual behavior management and support.
  • Conduct monthly and weekly audits and inspections, including reviewing participant files, play space checklists, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure all Agency Policies and Procedures, Program Operating Standards, WCB standards, Community Care Licensing Regulations, Risk Management requirements, and general safety standards are consistently met and followed by all staff.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment to support effective program operations.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or certificate in recreation, education, social services, or a related field, and/or relevant experience working with children or youth
  • Completion of at least 20 hours of coursework in areas such as child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition (required for licensed programs)
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent, related experience
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (or willingness to obtain)

Hours: 35 hours per, Monday to Friday, 10:30am - 6:00pm
Rate of Pay: $22.60 per hour
