Job summary

BGC Okanagan is hiring a Program Area Leader to support Recreation programs for children, youth and families at our Vernon location. The role focuses on planning activities, delivering engaging programs, and ensuring safety and licensing compliance.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in recreation/education or social services is required or relevant experience.
  • Course work covering child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs).
  • Minimum one year of recent related experience.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License; willingness to obtain Class 4 soon.
  • First Aid and Food Safe certifications (or willingness to obtain).
  • Agency screening including Criminal Record Check is required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements recreational, social, and/or educational activities for a specified program.
  • Works with Activity Leaders to deliver the program and engages members in activities.
  • Oversees day‑to‑day operation, facilities, equipment, and licensing requirements.
  • Makes recommendations for program development and evaluation.
  • Promotes the program at events and produce promotional materials.
  • Liaises with community providers to coordinate referrals and represent the organization.
  • Maintains records, statistics, and reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans and implements recreational, social, and/or educational activities for a specified program.
  • Works in a team together with the Activity Leaders to deliver the specified program and encourages and facilitates member participation in activities.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
  • Makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation, and program evaluation.
  • Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events.
  • Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program, and represent the organization or program in external events.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
Qualifications:
  • A diploma, certificate and/or relevant experience working with children/youth in recreation, education or social services
  • Completion of a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration which include child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs)
  • One (1) year recent related experience
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to obtain Class 4 as soon as possible
  • First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check
  • This position is open to all applicants
  • This position requires union membership

Hours: 12 hours per week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 1pm-5pm

Rate of Pay: $19.82 per hour
