Overview

The Sr Product Developer role is a dynamic role that presents an opportunity for career growth in our Product Development function across our Fresh Bread and Alternatives category as well as related businesses. As a technical team member this role is responsible for testing and implementing new ingredient technologies across multiple facilities as well as assessing the appropriate process technologies, margin improvement/productivity, quality improvement and overall portfolio optimization across their assigned suite of products.

The Sr Product Developer will be part of our R&D team and work collaboratively to develop new products to support business growth. This position offers exposure to various facilities and projects across the business, which provides ample opportunity to grow within the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluates new ingredient suppliers and leads implementation process, from lab testing to commercial scale up, while ensuring continued product quality

• Leads new product development through the entire commercialization process – including product formulation, sourcing new ingredients & suppliers, creating lab scale prototypes, conducting plant trials and determining final product specifications and shelf life.

• Supervise new product launches, ensuring recipes and specifications are followed by the production team, training bakery team members on expectations, verifying product quality and troubleshooting where necessary

• Documents and understands manufacturing processes to identify opportunity for product and process improvements

• Communicates and works cross functionally with bakeries, PLM, operations, finance and engineering to commercialize projects for new business.

• Ability to work on multiple projects with stringent timelines.

• Organized and adaptable, willing to learn.

• Some travel within Canada required

Required Experience :

• B.Sc. in Food Science or a related Science/ Engineering degree

• Passion for baking (at home or professionally)

• 2-5 years product development experience in a food manufacturing environment

• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, works well in a team setting

• Good knowledge of plant processes & equipment, ingredient functionality and food regulations

• Excellent analytical & problem solving skills
