Job summary

Propak Systems in Airdrie, Canada, seeks a senior process engineer with 10+ years in oil refining to lead and mentor teams on FEED, modular and EPFC projects. You will interact with clients, develop engineering deliverables, and oversee fabrication and assembly at Propak’s Airdrie facilities.

The role requires a PEng with APEGA or eligibility, and strong experience with desalters, hydroprocessing, and major process equipment sizing. International travel is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer registered and in good standing with APEGA or eligible.
  • 10+ years of experience in oil refining, upgrading, or recycling processing with detailed process knowledge.
  • Experience with PFD, P&ID, line lists and design basis memoranda.
  • Excellent communications skills and client interaction abilities.
  • Experience with HYSYS and BR&E ProMax, VMGSim, Symmetry, Flarenet.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, including delegation, checking, and authentication of work products.
  • Serve as a lead process engineer within multidisciplinary teams for FEED, modular, and EPFC projects.
  • Develop relationships with clients and support project delivery from concept to commissioning.
  • Oversee fabrication and assembly at Propak, Airdrie facilities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for startup and commissioning support.

Job description

In this position, Propak can offer the following career development opportunities:

  • Work on a variety of oil refining, oil processing or heavy oil projects for domestic and international clients. The scope of the projects will vary from FEED studies, modular packages and full turnkey EPFC projects.
  • Acquire in-depth technical expertise in oil refining and processing
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, including delegation, checking, and authentication of professional work products.
  • Become a critical decision maker while working with a multidisciplinary team of engineering and design leads
  • Develop and build relationships with clients
  • Gain practical experience by overseeing the fabrication and assembly of your projects in the Propak, Airdrie facilities.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for startup and commissioning support
  • Receive mentorship from senior process engineers, supervisors, and managers to support your technical development and role as a lead process engineer
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer registered and in good standing with Alberta Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or eligible for membership.
  • 10+ years of experience in oil refining, oil upgrading, or oil recycling processing with specific experience in Desalters and Electrostatic Treaters, Atmospheric and Vacuum Distillation, Thermal and Catalytic Cracking systems, Hydrotreating/Hydrofining, Platforming and Isomerization, Steam Methane Reformers, Delayed Cokers, Sulphur Recovery unit.
  • Experience designing alternative processes in Glycol Dehydration, Sweetening, Mechanical Refrigeration, Oil Processing, SAGD (wellpads, water treating, Central Processing), Oil Treater Design, Material Selection and Corrosion, and Compression is considered an asset.
  • EPC and/or Fabricator experience
  • Excellent communications skills required to interact with client and internal team members
  • Experience working with HYSYS and other engineering software (BR&E ProMax, VMGSim Symmetry, Flarenet)
  • Experience in sizing process equipment is an asset (separators, treaters, FWKO, heat exchangers, PSVs, flare systems, control valves, pumps, reciprocating, rotary screw, and centrifugal compressors)
  • Experience with typical process deliverables (PFD, HMB, P&ID, Line List, Design Basis Memorandum, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Control Narratives, Datasheets, Hydraulics, Line Sizing)
