Job summary

Enerflex Ltd. is seeking a Senior Process Engineer for our Calgary Water Solutions location. You will lead water treatment process studies, design, simulations, and commissioning activities, with a focus on produced water systems for oil and gas applications.

The role requires a P.Eng. with a Chemical Engineering background and 12+ years of experience in water treatment, with proven cross-disciplinary collaboration and strong communication skills. Travel to client sites will be involved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and P.Eng. designation with APEGA or equivalent.
  • 12+ years of progressive process engineering experience in oil and gas or water treatment.
  • Hands-on experience with produced water treatment systems, including design, commissioning, and/or operational support.
  • Strong technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines and interdisciplinary project execution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to client/project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Understand client requirements for water treatment packages.
  • Know major produced water treatment systems (flotation, oil-water separation, de-oiling, filtration, softening).
  • Prepare technical proposals and support RFQ responses.
  • Perform feasibility studies, conceptual design, and process studies.
  • Develop PFDs, material balances, and P&IDs.
  • Prepare operating manuals and control narratives.
  • Lead design reviews, HAZOP and SIL meetings with clients.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Process Engineer is responsible for water-related process studies, preparation of process flow diagrams, design and engineering involving simulations, design calculations, equipment sizing, Start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting. The Senior Process Engineer brings extensive experience in produced water treatment operations within the oil and gas industry.

This position will be based at our Calgary Water Solutions location.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Understand client requirements and specifications for water treatment packages.
  • Have a good understanding of major primary, secondary and tertiary-produced water treatment systems such as; flotation, oil-water separation, de-oiling, skimming, filtration, and softening.
  • Familiarity with the industrial water treatment systems.
  • Knowledge of working principles of various chemicals utilized in the water treatment industry.
  • Familiar with two-phase and three-phase separation studies, flow simulations
  • Conceptual knowledge of CFD studies is preferable
  • Preparation of Technical Proposals and support preparation of RFQs.
  • Execute Feasibility Studies, Conceptual Design, and Process Studies.
  • Simulation studies for standard products and packages using HYSYS and Flow Simulation software.
  • Development of Design Basis, PFD, Material balance, and P&IDs.
  • Prepare process descriptions, control narratives, safeguarding narratives, and operating manuals.
  • Design Calculations such as; line sizing, equipment sizing, gas consumption calculations, pump hydraulics and preparation of related equipment and instrument data sheets.
  • Represent EWS at Design review, HAZOP and SIL review meetings with the client, and conduct internal HAZOP reviews.
  • Support the Project Manager, proposals and project engineering team on all technical requirements for assigned projects.
  • Interdisciplinary support to Static, Instrumentation, Electrical, Rotary and Quality Assurance teams.
  • Ensure the deliverables provided to the project are technically accurate, within scope, and in compliance with quality procedures and project plans.
  • Support R&D activities in the shop, collect data, and observations, analyze lab results, and prepare a technical report for the tests.
  • Preparation of plant operating manual.
  • Troubleshooting and field support during the commissioning phase.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA or an equivalent professional engineering association.
  • 12+ years of progressive process engineering experience, preferably within the oil and gas or water treatment industry.
  • Hands-on experience with produced water treatment systems, including design, commissioning, and/or operational support.
  • Strong technical knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines and a solid understanding of interdisciplinary project execution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing changing priorities.
  • Results-driven with a strong focus on quality, safety, and project delivery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional team environments.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including visits to client and project sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend practical solutions.
  • Experienced in preparing technical reports, engineering studies, and scopes of work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident representing the company in client, vendor, and supplier meetings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and industry-standard engineering software.
  • Ability to work closely with project teams to define and achieve project objectives.
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and new product development.
