Job description

On behalf of our client, Procom is currently seeking a Senior Privacy Officer for a 6 month engagement with the possibility of extension.

The Senior Privacy Officer will support ongoing compliance with privacy legislation and internal standards by serving as a subject matter expert, organizational coordinator, and privacy lead for specific areas. This role combines oversight of external consultants, direct execution of privacy activities, and collaboration across departments to embed privacy best practices into procurement, systems, and operations.

The Senior Privacy Officer will be required to conduct and clearly demonstrate detailed analysis and advanced critical thinking across all privacy deliverables, particularly in the development of PIAs. This work goes well beyond typical assessments, requiring a deeper investigation into system design, functionality, data flows, and intended use. Findings must be translated into actionable recommendations that shape privacy-informed system design, mitigate risk, and support sound decision-making and approvals.

This position plays a critical role in reinforcing privacy governance and operational readiness. This is a full-time engagement, though weekly hours may fluctuate based on operational needs. The officer will contribute to stronger internal capacity, drive consistent engagement with third-party consultants, and ensure that privacy is a functional part of project design and service delivery.

The role is especially focused on translating FOIPPA requirements into practical, organization wide practices that support both compliance and strategic objectives.

The Senior Privacy Officer will coordinate all engagements with third party privacy consultants to ensure alignment, quality, and value. The Senior Privacy Officer will :

1. Act as the primary liaison between the client and external privacy consultants, ensuring expectations, deliverables, and timelines are clearly communicated.

2. Develop FOIPPA-aligned scopes of work and deliverable expectations for consultants, and provide quality assurance reviews of their outputs, including Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), privacy risk assessments, and related documentation.

3. Ensure consultant recommendations are integrated into broader project plans, procurement documents, and system design processes.

4. Monitor consultant performance, track emerging issues or quality concerns, and maintain documentation of scope, outputs, costs, and follow-through.

5. Facilitate knowledge transfer from consultants to internal teams, supporting the reuse of privacy tools, templates, and process improvements.

6. Lead or co-lead PIAs for new systems, technologies, and data-handling processes, ensuring a consistent methodology across all assessments (including those by consultants) and providing detailed analysis of technical integrations, data flows, and risk mitigation strategies

7.Apply advanced critical thinking and detailed analysis to all PIAs, with a focus on investigating system design, data flows, and use cases, and translating findings into actionable, risk-informed recommendations.

8.Review all PIAs before for quality, accuracy and that all key risks and mitigations are clearly articulated for executive sign-off.

9. Lead privacy support for IT procurements and projects by developing FOIPPA aligned requirements. Participate in procurement planning and evaluations by reviewing submission materials, supporting the creation of privacy related evaluation criteria, and contributing to procurement documents, contracts, and technical specifications. Provide guidance to ensure vendor proposals and solutions reflect privacy expectations from the outset.

10.Collaborate with project teams and vendors throughout system planning, demos, and implementation phases to ensure “privacy-by-design” principles are applied.

11.Act as the privacy lead during demonstrations, assess tools and features for potential risks, document findings, and recommend practical mitigations for any compliance gaps or issues.

Act as a subject matter expert for complex privacy-related decisions and escalations.

12.Support contract evaluations with a focus on privacy alignment and legal obligations.

13. Prepare and deliver regular status and progress reports on related activities. 14. Track and organize privacy documentation for specific projects, such as PIAs, risk logs, and consultant deliverables to support traceability, oversight, and compliance across all active initiatives.

15.Contribute to internal briefings and executive updates related to privacy compliance and risks.
