We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Privacy Officer for a key opportunity with a public sector organization in Vancouver, British Columbia. This is a contract position designed to support privacy compliance, risk management, and project integration over six months, with the possibility of extension.

Position : Senior Privacy Officer

Location : Vancouver, BC (Hybrid : On-site and remote)

Contract Duration : 6 months (potential extension up to three months)

Work Schedule : Monday to Friday, full-time

Hourly Rate : $75 - $110 per hour

Role Overview :

The Senior Privacy Officer will serve as a subject matter expert to support privacy governance, compliance, and operational initiatives. The role involves leading privacy assessments, coordinating with external consultants, and ensuring privacy practices are embedded into organizational processes, procurement, and system design. The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance on privacy risks, develop actionable recommendations, and promote privacy-by-design principles across projects.

Key Responsibilities :

• Oversee and coordinate engagements with third-party privacy consultants, ensuring scope, quality, and deliverables meet organizational standards.
• Lead or support the development of Privacy Impact Assessments, thoroughly analyzing data flows, system design, and operational use cases to identify privacy risks and mitigation strategies.
• Ensure privacy considerations are integrated into procurement activities and technical projects from planning through implementation.
• Advise on privacy legislation compliance, including FOIPPA, and translate legal requirements into practical organizational practices.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of privacy activities, assessments, and compliance efforts, providing regular updates to stakeholders.
• Manage evolving privacy risks and ensure organizational policies and procedures adapt accordingly.

Ideal Candidate Profile :

• Extensive experience in privacy management, risk assessment, and compliance within the public sector or similar environments.
• Strong understanding of privacy legislation and privacy-by-design principles.
• Proven ability to lead complex assessments and coordinate multi-stakeholder projects.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical privacy concepts into clear, actionable insights.
• Ability to work full-time over the contract period with flexibility to meet project needs.

Qualifications :

• Relevant professional experience in privacy program oversight or privacy risk management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of privacy legislation applicable in BC and beyond.
• Ability to analyze systems and data flows critically and develop practical, risk-informed recommendations.
