Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical delivery for northern and remote infrastructure projects in Canada. The role emphasizes cold-regions engineering, permafrost, peatlands, climate adaptation, geohazards, and resilient design, with strategic growth across Northern Ontario and Canada.

You will manage projects, mentor teams, engage clients, and contribute to proposals and practice growth while developing capabilities across the team.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Engineering Geology, Cold Regions Engineering, or related field; P.Eng. in Ontario.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Proven experience managing complex geotechnical projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong PM and client relationship skills; able to lead major technical proposals and strategic pursuits.
• Demonstrated expertise in cold and northern region geotechnics.

• Lead technical delivery of geotechnical assignments for northern and remote infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, resilient, constructible solutions.
• Plan and oversee investigations, lab testing, interpretation, and design for permafrost, peatlands, organic soils, geohazards, and climate-sensitive ground conditions.
• Provide senior technical direction and review for foundations, earthworks, slopes, ground improvement and other geotech aspects of multidisciplinary projects.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and change; coordinate with other disciplines.
• Build trusted client relationships; communicate recommendations clearly and develop practical solutions.
• Lead and contribute to proposals, strategic pursuits, and practice growth across Northern Ontario and Canada.
• Mentor geotechnical staff and promote knowledge sharing to strengthen cold-regions capabilities.

About You

• Master'S or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, Engineering Geology, Cold Regions Engineering, or a related discipline, with Professional Engineering License (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including significant technical leadership responsibilities.
• Proven experience managing complex geotechnical projects and multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong project management and client relationship skills, acting as a trusted advisor and driving repeat business, with demonstrated ability to lead major technical proposals and strategic pursuits.
• Demonstrated expertise in cold and northern region geotechnics.

Additional information
Expected compensation for this role is between $125,00 - $171,900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
