Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a GIS Automation Engineer to design and maintain automation and data-integration solutions for the ALTO project, collaborating with GIS, CAD/BIM, engineering and information-management teams to build reusable ETL workflows using FME Form.

You will deploy and monitor automations in FME Flow, automate quality-control checks, and integrate data across ArcGIS Enterprise, PostgreSQL and CAD/BIM environments, with strong logging and recovery capabilities.

Qualifications

• Five years of GIS data integration experience.
• At least three years hands-on FME development.
• Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and PostgreSQL.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python; bilingualism is an asset.

Job description

Overview

As part of the national GIS team, you will design and maintain automation and data integration solutions for the ALTO project. Working with GIS, CAD/BIM, engineering, and information management teams, you will develop reusable ETL workflows, automate data validation and synchronization, and ensure the reliability of production processes. You will also contribute to integrating GIS with the project's systems and data environments.

Location – Toronto, Ontario; Montréal or Québec City, Quebec.

Your role

• Analyze the project's geospatial data integration, transformation, validation, and synchronization requirements.
• Design, develop, test, and document reusable ETL workflows using FME Form.
• Deploy, schedule, monitor, and maintain automations in FME Flow, as required.
• Automate quality-control checks, anomaly detection, and validation reporting.
• Integrate and synchronize data among ArcGIS Enterprise, PostgreSQL, CAD/BIM environments, and other project systems.
• Develop robust logging, error-handling, alerting, and process-recovery mechanisms.
• Optimize processing workflows to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Troubleshoot production automation incidents and implement the necessary corrections.
• Establish and apply development, version-control, testing, documentation, and deployment practices for automated solutions.

About you

• A university degree in geomatics, computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, including at least three years of hands‑on FME development experience.
• Hands‑on experience with ArcGIS Enterprise and PostgreSQL is mandatory, particularly in integrating, managing, and supporting enterprise geodatabases.
• Experience with FME Flow for deploying, scheduling, monitoring, and managing production automations is considered a significant asset.
• Experience integrating GIS data with CAD/BIM sources, geodatabases, relational databases, files, and web services.
• Proficiency in FME Form for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing complex, reusable ETL workflows.
• Strong knowledge of geospatial formats, coordinate systems, data schemas, validation rules, and data‑quality principles.
• Strong command of SQL in PostgreSQL; knowledge of Python, REST APIs, web services, and version‑control practices is considered an asset.
• Ability to document requirements, architecture, processing logic, tests, dependencies, and support procedures.
• Proficiency in French or English; French–English bilingualism is a significant asset because of collaboration with teams in Quebec and elsewhere in Canada.*
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills for designing reliable and efficient automations.
• Rigour in development, testing, documentation, and change management.
• Independence and accountability when supporting automated production processes.
• Ability to translate operational needs into simple, reusable, and maintainable technical solutions.
• A collaborative mindset and strong communication skills for working with GIS, CAD/BIM, engineering, and information management teams.

* This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as it involves collaboration with members of the Canadian or global leadership team located outside Québec.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $64,000 - $90,000 annually . Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
