Job summary

Electric Power Engineers (EPE) is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to develop and conduct computer modeling and analysis for transmission planning studies, including steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analyses, supporting near-term and long-term planning.

You will perform NERC-compliance analyses, generator interconnection studies (SSR), ensure VRT requirements, and contribute to reports while coordinating with clients. Remote work in US or Canada with occasional travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power systems.
  • 2-4+ years of experience as a power systems engineer.
  • Experience performing power system impact studies: Dynamic Stability, Load Flow, Steady State, Short Circuit.
  • Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA.
  • Experience automating/programming in Python.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to change.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system impact studies: Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability.
  • Perform NERC-compliance-related technical analyses such as TPL-001-4 Annual Planning Assessments.
  • Perform full generator interconnection studies including SSR studies.
  • Ensure renewable/storage interconnections meet Voltage Ride-Through requirements.
  • Participate in ERCOT working group meetings and case building for clients.
  • Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.
  • Process, generate, and maintain data for all studies.
  • Take responsibility for timely completion of projects while meeting quality and budget objectives.
  • Identify training needs and present to Engineering Manager.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Develop and conduct computer modeling and analysis for transmissionplanning studieswhich include steady state analysis, short circuit analysis, and dynamic stability analysis.Studies may include near-term and long-term transmission planning, generator interconnection studies, reliability-driven transmission project alternatives development, and NERC standards compliance analyses.

Responsibilities

Howyou can make an impact:

  • Perform power system impact studies: SteadyState, Short Circuit,andDynamicStability
  • Perform NERC-compliance-relatedtechnical analysessuch as TPL-001-4 Annual Planning Assessments.
  • Perform full generator interconnection studies which may also include Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR) studies.
  • Ensure thatrenewable and/or storage resource projects interconnecting to the transmission systemmeet VoltageRide-Through (VRT)requirements.
  • Participate in ERCOT working group meetings and case building efforts on behalf of specific clients as assigned.
  • Preparetechnical study reports for all studies performed.
  • Process, generate,and maintain data as required forallstudies.
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Identify training needs and present to the Engineering Manageras needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electric Engineering required; emphasis in power systems preferred
  • 2-4+ years of experience as a power systems engineer
  • Experience performing power system impact studies such as Dynamic Stability, Load Flow, Steady State, Short Circuit
  • Experience with power systems software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, and TARA.
  • Experience automating/programming in Python preferred.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation

  • Proven team player with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks.
  • Flexible with the ability to manage change.
  • Have high standards in producing quality reports and products that he/she shall own with pride.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
