Job summary

IBM is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate internal platform services that empower Confluent engineers to scale development and testing. You will own reliability and monitoring, collaborating across teams to deliver critical platforms and tooling.

You will prototype AI-assisted workflows, evaluate new tools, and drive production-ready solutions with guardrails and observability. The role emphasizes ownership, mentoring, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience building and operating cloud services.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems and reliability.
• Proficiency in Java or Go plus Python.
• Experience with CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate internal developer platform services, design secure, multi-tenant, scalable services, and own reliability, performance, and monitoring.
• Improve pre-production and performance testing capabilities with automated tests and self-service reporting.
• Explore and integrate AI-assisted workflows for developers and platform teams.
• Deliver projects end to end, framing problems, writing docs, and driving milestones with peers.
• Contribute to team culture, on-call activities, incident response, and postmortems.
