Job summary

IBM is seeking a Staff Software Engineer I to design and deliver advanced control plane platforms for our Confluent Cloud. You will own complex initiatives spanning multiple teams, shaping architecture, scalability, and reliability of our cloud platform.

You will mentor engineers, drive high-impact projects, and improve platform observability and deployment safety, while partnering with Cloud Platform, Kafka, Security, and SRE teams to align on long-term strategy.

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience.
Distributed systems design and cloud-native architectures.
Experience with Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms.
Proficiency in Go, Java, or Scala.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end architecture and delivery of control plane systems for cloud products.
Lead cross-team initiatives, define requirements, and drive execution.
Improve platform reliability with observability, SLOs, runbooks, and safe deployment.
Collaborate with Cloud Platform, Kafka, Compute, Security, SRE, and others to align architecture.
Mentor engineers and elevate engineering standards across the org.
Enhance developer productivity with tooling, CI/CD, and testing strategies.
Influence technical roadmaps aligned to business goals.
Contribute to engineering culture through docs, reviews, and knowledge sharing.
