Job summary

Brunel in Vancouver seeks a Senior Planner/Scheduler to develop and maintain integrated project schedules for a major mining capital project. Based in Vancouver, you will work with the Project Controls Manager and leadership to drive planning across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

You will lead scheduling activities, integrate schedules into a master plan, analyze progress against baselines, forecast performance, and identify risks with mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field.
  • 10+ years in project controls, planning, scheduling, or construction management.
  • 6+ years in leadership within project controls.
  • Experience integrating schedules for major capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of schedule management, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Experience in heavy industrial/capital projects.
  • Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Job description

Brunel is seeking a Senior Planner/Scheduler to support a major mining capital project. Based in Vancouver, this role will work closely with the Project Controls Manager and project leadership team to drive planning and scheduling activities across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining integrated project schedules, supporting project forecasting and reporting, identifying schedule risks and mitigation strategies, and providing leadership within the project controls function. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of a complex mining project within a dynamic international environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor integrated project schedules throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Lead planning and scheduling activities in support of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project controls teams.
  • Integrate multiple project schedules into a comprehensive master schedule.
  • Analyze project progress and performance against established baselines.
  • Identify schedule risks, delays, scope changes, and potential project impacts.
  • Develop mitigation and recovery plans to address schedule challenges.
  • Analyze critical path activities and schedule constraints and provide recommendations to project leadership.
  • Support schedule forecasting and progress measurement activities.
  • Participate in project risk management processes, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and tracking.
  • Evaluate schedule impacts associated with design changes, scope changes, and change management activities.
  • Prepare detailed schedule analysis, progress reports, forecasts, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and project controls teams to ensure alignment of project objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with project controls standards, scheduling procedures, and version control requirements.
  • Identify project trends and emerging issues and communicate recommendations to project leadership.
  • Facilitate schedule review meetings and provide guidance on planning and execution strategies.
  • Mentor and support other planning and scheduling team members.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and continuous improvement of project controls processes and practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in project controls, planning, scheduling, construction management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a leadership capacity within a project controls environment.
  • Extensive experience developing, maintaining, and managing complex project schedules on major capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of project controls principles, schedule management, forecasting, progress measurement, and performance reporting.
  • Experience integrating engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning schedules into a master project schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project execution methodologies and construction sequencing.
  • Experience evaluating schedule impacts related to design changes, scope changes, and project risks.
  • Proven ability to analyze critical path activities and develop mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Experience participating in project risk management and change management processes.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex project information and identify trends, concerns, and opportunities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and coaching experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced project environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 and other project scheduling software.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting the construction of metal mining operations.
  • Experience working on large-scale mining capital projects or mega-projects.
  • Experience supporting crusher relocation, materials handling, processing plant, or brownfield expansion projects.
  • Experience working within an owner's team or EPCM environment.
  • Experience with cost estimating, forecasting, and integrated cost and schedule analysis.
  • Experience leading planning and scheduling functions on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience supporting civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping construction scopes.
  • Experience working on international mining projects.
  • Previous project experience in South America.
  • Spanish language skills are considered an asset.
