Job summary

Brunel is seeking a Project Manager to lead the full lifecycle delivery of underground infrastructure projects for a global mining client. The role is primarily site-based in a remote rural location east of Saskatoon, with on-site accommodation provided.

You will coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction activities, ensure safety and quality, and report on schedule, cost, and risk. Strong PM experience in mining and ability to manage multiple workstreams are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience with PM focus

Job description

Introduction

We’re hiring a Project Manager for our global mining client to join their team! You will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of minor and sustaining underground infrastructure projects supporting the asset. The position is primarily site-based in a remote rural location east of Saskatoon, with site accommodation available. The intended contract duration is 12 months.

Responsibilities
  • Define project objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with operations, engineering, and maintenance stakeholders
  • Develop detailed project scopes of work, including technical requirements
  • Identify project constraints, risks, and constructability considerations
  • Develop Class 2 cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies
  • Prepare documentation required to advance projects through internal stage-gate processes
  • Support procurement and contract award activities, including preparation of RFP scopes, review of vendor proposals, and alignment with approved budgets
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities supporting underground conveyor and infrastructure design, including mechanical, structural, electrical and controls, and civil/underground infrastructure
  • Facilitate design reviews and ensure alignment with operational, safety, and maintainability requirements
  • Manage and finalize partially completed engineering deliverables, including layouts, equipment specifications, installation methodologies, and design packages
  • Identify long‑lead materials and associated procurement requirements
  • Inventory existing materials and assess availability
  • Develop procurement strategies for conveyor systems, structural components, and supporting infrastructure
  • Coordinate with supply chain teams to prepare bid packages, evaluate proposals, award purchase orders, and manage long‑lead items
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials aligned with project schedules
  • Direct construction activities with support from Project Coordinators
  • Manage contractors on site, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity objectives are achieved
  • Maintain cost control throughout execution, including forecasting and variance reporting
  • Lead weekly contractor coordination meetings
  • Resolve field issues in collaboration with design teams and operations
  • Track productivity and unit rates to support ongoing and future estimates
  • Implement project‑specific health, safety, and environmental management systems
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, organizational, and site standards
  • Conduct site inspections, attend toolbox talks, and participate in incident investigations
  • Act as the primary interface with project and operations teams
  • Provide regular reporting on schedule, cost, quality, and risk
  • Maintain transparent communication regarding scope changes and emerging risks
  • Support engagement with regulatory bodies and third‑party reviewers as required
  • Compile as‑built drawings, turnover packages, and lessons learned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mining, or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience, including at least 7 years in project management
  • OR Engineering Technologist or Technical Diploma with a minimum of 12 years of relevant industry experience, including at least 7 years in project management
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • Experience managing small to medium‑sized projects or workstreams
  • Experience preparing technical reports, documentation, and presentations
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, scheduling, cost control, and resource planning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional, multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards
  • Experience with risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and continuous improvement practices
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills
  • Experience managing mine infrastructure projects
  • Ability to manage multiple project phases simultaneously
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships across operations, engineering, and contractor teams
  • Effective communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and align stakeholders
  • Familiarity with underground mining infrastructure
  • Understanding of conveyor system components and installation requirements
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, standards, and practices
