Job description

WTW – Risk & Broking (R&B) North America are looking to recruit an individual for the role of Canadian Construction Senior Placement Specialist in our Toronto office. WTW is seeking a candidate with proven expertise in structuring and negotiating placements for complex construction risks, both project specific and annual programs as well lead key initiatives both internally and externally. Whilst located in Toronto, this is a national role to support all of our five Canadian offices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advising on and negotiating insurance placements in support of WTW’s Canadian Construction Industry Vertical.
  • Providing technical support to account teams.
  • Providing mentorship and coaching to members of the Canadian Construction brokering team.
  • Initiating learning opportunities.
  • Actively engaging with carriers to grow and strengthen WTW’s market relationships.
  • Leading key market initiatives.
  • Building out WTW manuscript wordings.
  • Collaborating and supporting regional teams with RFP opportunities.
  • Working with global construction teams and building out a network of resources and new talent pipeline.
  • Participating in conferences and involvement on panel/presentation to further the WTW brand and the Canadian WTW construction industry vertical.

The Responsibilities

  • Lead complex construction project placements and high profiled client renewals. Understanding of Canadian regulatory placement requirements and tax implications.
  • Exceptional technical construction insurance knowledge, including a wide range of all general insurance lines.
  • Deep understanding of construction project placements to deliver the best solutions to our clients.
  • Proven construction contract understanding and contract delivery models to support clients and the WTW team.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to review and interpret complex insurance contracts and policy documents.
  • Supporting the continued development of the construction broking team through training, mentorship, guidance on renewal placements as well as construction project placements.
  • Excellent market engagement to maintain and build close relationships with market carriers especially with the construction underwriting teams.
  • Commitment to continued learning & development.
  • Provide a positive work environment that attracts, retains and motivates talent.
  • Provide thought leadership and be part of internal committees and leadership initiatives.
  • Actively participate in the insurance industry and construction industry to elevate the presence and reputation of the organization and the Canadian WTW construction industry vertical.
  • Supporting the claims team with any construction specific claims.
  • Facilitate and drive the use of WTW’s analytical modeling for clients for best optimized risk program placements.
  • Utilization and adoption of WTW’s delivery models and various platforms is adhered to.
  • Business Travel, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Licenses across Canada as required by provincial law.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in construction broking.
  • Proven team management experience.
  • CAIB, CIP or CRM preferred.
  • Demonstrated high technical expertise in construction insurance, including the ability to apply knowledge of coverage forms for program design, identify coverage gaps, and provide ongoing coverage consultation.
  • Leading market initiatives and building relationships with various external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with various team members within the North American construction vertical.
