Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Performance Analyst to provide financial leadership, governance, and performance reporting support across Downstream operations. This role partners with executive leadership, refinery finance teams, and corporate planning to deliver accurate financial insights and strategic decision support.

You will lead cross-functional relationships, drive continuous improvement, and develop financial models, variance analyses, and governance practices to enhance reporting

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in financial planning, performance management, and business partnering.
  • Degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics or related discipline is required.
  • CPA and/or MBA designation would be considered an asset.
  • Strong financial modeling, data analytics, and Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and gross margin reporting support for the Refining business.
  • Partner with refinery, commercial, and corporate leaders to deliver financial insights and support business decision-making.
  • Produce and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance reports.
  • Develop financial models and variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and performance drivers.
  • Ensure effective financial controls, reporting processes, account reconciliations, and governance practices.
  • Prepare performance commentary and supporting analysis for MD&A, Investor Relations, Board materials, and other external reporting requirements.
  • Lead and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, standardization, and reporting quality.
  • Support and drive finance transformation, modernization, and digital initiatives across Downstream and Cenovus Finance.

About this opportunity

The Senior Performance Analyst provides financial leadership, governance, and performance reporting support across Downstream operations. This role partners closely with executive leadership, refinery finance teams, corporate planning, and corporate reporting to deliver accurate financial insights, key performance metrics, and strategic decision support. The successful candidate will lead through influence, foster strong cross-functional relationships, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reporting efficiency, analytical quality, productivity, and overall business performance.

What you’ll do
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and gross margin reporting support for the Refining business.

Who you are

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline required.
  • CPA and/or MBA designation would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in financial planning, performance management, and business partnering.
  • Strong financial, business, and analytical acumen, with advanced financial modeling, data analytics, and Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of refinery operations, commercial optimization, marketing, economics, planning, and/or trading environments; refining experience is an asset.
  • Experience with SAP and Power BI, with an understanding of financial controls, system controls, and risk management practices.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, present complex financial information, and mentor junior analysts.
