Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Technician responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, calibrating, and maintaining electrical systems to support safe and reliable facility operations.

This role covers low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment, instrumentation, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, and process control devices, with a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Electrician certification with Red Seal is required
• Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience
• Experience with power distribution equipment, MCCs, PLCs, instrumentation, and process control equipment
• Experience supporting facility maintenance, shutdowns, turnarounds, and commissioning activities is preferred

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical systems, equipment, and components, including motors, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, breakers, and power distribution systems
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment to support safe and reliable operations
• Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical faults using specialized testing and diagnostic equipment
• Install, terminate, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, cable tray systems, and associated electrical hardware
• Troubleshoot and maintain process instrumentation, including transmitters, sensors, analyzers, control valves, and other field devices
• Calibrate electrical and instrumentation equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with operational requirements
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Support equipment commissioning, startup, shutdown, and turnaround activities as required
• Conduct electrical safety inspections and ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, standards, and company procedures
• Participate in lockout/tagout (LOTO), hazard assessments, safe work permitting, and other safety processes
• Document maintenance activities, equipment history, test results, and repairs in CMMS
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to identify reliability improvements and support asset integrity initiatives

About this opportunity: The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, calibrating, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This role performs maintenance on low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment, instrumentation, motor control systems, process control devices, and related infrastructure. The Electrical Maintenance Technician ensures all work is completed in accordance with company standards, applicable regulatory requirements, safety procedures, and industry best practices.

While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment:

This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation. All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities.

Transportation:

Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. Christina Lake, Christina Lake North and Sunrise have service flight Hubs in Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB and Lac La Biche, AB.

What you’ll do:

• Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical systems, equipment, and components, including motors, motor control centers (MCCs), switchgear, transformers, breakers, and power distribution systems
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment to support safe and reliable operations
• Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical faults using specialized testing and diagnostic equipment
• Install, terminate, test, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, cable tray systems, and associated electrical hardware
• Troubleshoot and maintain process instrumentation, including transmitters, sensors, analyzers, control valves, and other field devices
• Calibrate electrical and instrumentation equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with operational requirements
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
• Support equipment commissioning, startup, shutdown, and turnaround activities as required
• Conduct electrical safety inspections and ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, standards, and company procedures

Who you are:

• Journeyperson Electrician certification with Red Seal is required
• Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical, power generation, mining, or heavy industrial environments
• Experience working with power distribution equipment, motor control systems, PLCs, instrumentation, and process control equipment
• Experience supporting facility maintenance, shutdowns, turnarounds, and commissioning activities is preferred

The following training /certifications are considered an asset: Journeyman ticket certification, or indentured in Instrumentation trade Measurement (MARP) SCADA experience. We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
