Job description

Join us as a Senior Payroll Specialist, Finance at the University of Calgary

The Payroll Department within Finance is seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Payroll Specialist. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for over 10,000 employees and students, adhering to legislation and university policies. The position reports to the Payroll Manager and involves managing daily payroll operations in a high-volume, complex environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and guiding payroll staff to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Training new payroll specialists and conducting payroll audits for accuracy.
  • Processing payroll and benefits data accurately and efficiently.
  • Handling complex recoveries, investigating payroll discrepancies, and resolving banking issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with government reporting requirements and university policies.
  • Collaborating with team members and other departments to streamline payroll processes.

Qualifications:

  • PCP Certification from the National Payroll Institute.
  • University degree in business, finance, human resources, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of payroll processing experience in a large organization.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, CRA, and Service Canada regulations.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft HR/Time/Payroll system is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
