Job summary

CHES Special Risk Inc. in Toronto seeks an experienced Underwriter to evaluate, price, and manage property & casualty submissions for MGA business, including complex risks and broker liaison, while focusing on portfolio profitability.

The role requires a minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience, strong commercial knowledge, and bilingual abilities (French/English) are an asset for Canadian MGAs. A hybrid work environment is offered with strong benefit programs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of underwriting experience in property & casualty insurance.
• Strong knowledge of commercial underwriting practices.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Proficiency in underwriting systems and portfolio management tools.
• Bilingual (French and English) is an asset for Canadian MGAs.

Responsibilities

• Assess and underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsements in accordance with MGA guidelines and delegated authority.
• Analyze risk exposures and determine appropriate coverage terms, limits, and pricing.
• Collaborate with brokers to negotiate terms and provide responsive service.
• Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to underwriting strategy and profitability targets.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior underwriters.
• Participate in product development and refinement of underwriting guidelines.
• Maintain accurate documentation and underwriting files.
• Represent the MGA at industry events and broker meetings.
