STATUS: Permanent; Full-Time with benefits

SHIFT: 35 Hours per week

LOCATION: Provincial Office in Vancouver, BC - Hybrid (2 days per week at the office)

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

WAGE: Salaried

As Senior Officer, Community Giving (Provincial) at the BC SPCA, you'll help shape the future of community fundraising across British Columbia. Joining one of Canada's most innovative fundraising teams, you'll lead the expansion of community giving initiatives that strengthen donor engagement, build fundraising capacity, and create lasting support for animals in need.

Set within the Public Engagement & Advancement (PE&A) team, the Senior Officer, Community Giving (Provincial), plays a key role in growing community-based fundraising across British Columbia. Working closely with Community Animal Centres, volunteers, and supporters, this position leads the development and expansion of community giving initiatives that increase engagement, build fundraising capacity, and generate sustainable support for animals in need.

The role of Senior Officer, Community Giving (Provincial)

As part of the Community Giving Team, led by the Manager, Community Giving & Engagement, the Senior Officer, Community Giving (Provincial), serves as a provincial resource for Community Animal Centres, providing fundraising leadership, guidance, and support to help strengthen local fundraising efforts and community engagement opportunities:

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and rollout of Community Giving initiatives within communities.
  • Support peer-to-peer, third-party and community fundraising programs.
  • Recruit, train and support volunteer committees.
  • Develop fundraising resources, toolkits and training materials.
  • Coach Community Animal Centre staff and volunteers.
  • Support fundraising goals, budgets and performance evaluation.

Some specific duties:

Community Giving Pilot (65%)
  • Identify, evaluate, develop, pilot, and lead the roll-out of Community Engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening identified community relationships, increasing donor acquisition, and improving donor retention.
  • In collaboration with Volunteer Resources, lead the recruitment, training, and support of volunteer committees to support community giving campaigns and strategic engagement opportunities.
  • Develop peer-to-peer and third-party assets including platform development (supported by Digital team), marketing assets, collateral, processes, and supporting documents.
Community Animal Centre Fundraising Leadership & Support (30%)
  • Provide coaching in best practices to Managers, Animal Centres to strengthen visitor engagement opportunities that inspire giving, deepen community connections, and support donor acquisition and retention goals.
  • Identify and support the development and rollout of new and enhanced opportunities to give within a BC SPCA centre (including signage, technology, experiences).

  • Coaching Community Animal Centre teams and Volunteer Committees.

What skills have you developed?
  • A university degree and 5-8 years of experience in fundraising, specifically in community giving, peer to peer and third-party fundraising; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the employer.
    • Related experience includes but is not limited to:
      • Rolling out fundraising campaigns or initiatives, especially across multiple locations;
      • Creating, monitoring, and analyzing annual budgets;
      • Providing formal and informal training and coaching to colleagues and volunteers who often have minimal or no fundraising experience.
  • A thorough understanding of fundraising strategy, efficiency, and best practices and how fundraising at the local/community level can best achieve its goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, manage projects, and adapt with flexibility and creativity in a high-volume environment while meeting priorities and working independently.
  • Ability to accurately collect, record, and analyze complex data to demonstrate success and uncover areas of concern.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and comfort with presenting to small and large groups.
  • Exceptional written, oral, and persuasive communication skills, including an ability to relate respectfully to a diverse audience.
  • Able to self-direct, create work processes and procedures, implement improvements as needed, while recognizing when to escape something.
  • A results-oriented approach with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, an ability to prioritize and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information: surveying the landscape, determining what is needed, sourcing it, analyzing, distilling, and using it to inform decision-making with good judgment.
  • Comfortable working with data: establishing data points, accurate record-keeping, collecting data, analysis, using data to support initiatives, and to demonstrate success, need, or areas of concern.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • CRM experience and open to learning others if necessary (we use Raiser’s Edge and MailChimp).
  • Able to thrive in an open-concept and fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver's License and be able to travel throughout the province, including to more remote communities
