Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Senior Network Administrator for our Sustainable Infrastructure ICAT team in the GTA. You will architect, deploy, and maintain network equipment across multiple sites, ensuring security, reliability, and documentation.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, 10+ years of experience, CCNP certification, and willingness to travel within the Greater Toronto Area with on-site presence five days a week.

The Role:

The senior network administrator is responsible for several duties within the Johnson Controls Sustainable Infrastructure ICAT (Information, Communication, Automation, Technology) team, including architecting, deploying, and maintaining network equipment such as switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless.

Responsibilities

• Manage the procurement process and physical installation for new network equipment across multiple customer sites.
• Manage and maintain the structured cabling across multiple customer sites. Schedule and manage electrical and cabling contractors to perform required work.
• Install, configure, harden, and maintain network operating systems.
• Configure and troubleshoot firewall/IPS policies and access control lists.
• Configure, manage, and troubleshoot cybersecurity products such as two-factor authentication and endpoint protection solutions.
• Perform wireless surveys to identify coverage and performance issues. Implement system improvements to address deficiencies.
• Maintain an asset /software inventory, system documentation, and diagrams for all network infrastructures across customer sites. Write standard operating procedures documentation and facilitate knowledge transfer to junior network administrators for coaching.
• Manage multiple methods of software and configuration backup. Create and maintain backup documentation outlining standard operating procedures, schedules, and system as-built configuration.
• Deploy, configure, harden, and maintain network management systems (i.e. HPE IMC, Cisco Catalyst Center, SolarWinds, PRTG) that performs system monitoring, log aggregation, and alerting.
• Work with OEMs, vendors, contractors, and customers in order to troubleshoot issues, request quotes, manage service agreements, and execute hardware warranty RMAs.
• Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance including health checks, software patching, generating reports, system upgrades, etc.
• Assist with creating and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity practices and documentation.
• Perform cybersecurity audits of network and OT systems, participate in vulnerability assessment exercises, and coach the wider team on cybersecurity best practices.
• Follow incident management procedures and log all work completed in the IT ticketing system. Work with stakeholders to perform efficient and effective troubleshooting of issues, perform root cause analysis studies, and implement system improvements to reduce incident occurrences.
• Comply with all Johnson Controls safety policies and procedures. Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.
• Assist the ICAT team with installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting building systems that fall under the team’s shared responsibility.
• On-site attendance five days a week and participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
• Mentor junior team members and train them to perform common tasks.

Require Qualifications

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent field.
• A minimum of ten years’ work-related experience in the outlined role with demonstrated mastery of all responsibilities outlined above.
• Valid CCNP certification or equivalent.

Required Skills

• Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime as required.
• Must be able to pass provincial and federal criminal record check and subject interview.
• Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks, which includes ability to climb ladders, use hand tools, lift heavy objects with assistance, etc.
• Excellent communication, information gathering, and documentation skills.
• Excellent time management skills and punctuality.
• Ability to commute throughout the GTA on a daily basis and to remote sites on an infrequent basis.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarization with cybersecurity best practices and hardening techniques with regards to network equipment, server operating systems, workstations, and OT.
• History of attaining the CompTIA A+ certification.
• History of attaining the ITIL v3/v4 Foundation certification.
• Valid cybersecurity related certifications.

SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $125,00- CAD (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
