Job description

A t Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.

Why is this role important?

As a Senior Mobile Developer, you will be working with colleagues on the PC Optimum team and report to the Software Development Manager. You will have exposure to every aspect of the software development cycle, and you will be encouraged to express your opinions and challenge assumptions. This is a rare opportunity to build mobile experiences at massive scale and impact the lives of millions of Canadians. Working across iOS and Android, the PC Optimum team builds and evolves experiences that help Canadians engage with one of the country’s largest loyalty programs.

What you’ll do
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of our mobile applications and supporting ecosystem, along with their respective strengths and weaknesses, to provide solutions to existing and future challenges.
  • Design and build mobile software components to enhance our iOS and Android applications.
  • Construct design documents and documentation to aid in maintenance and code reuse.
  • Through your knowledge of industry trends and tools, together with your own experiences, work with the team to improve our software, our environment, and our process.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the development teams to tear down obstacles and keep initiatives on target and moving forward.
  • Coach and mentor junior developers
  • Provide technical guidance and support in resolving critical issues.
Does this sound like you?
  • You are a seasoned mobile developer with strong experience across both iOS and Android, along with mentorship experience.
  • You should have experience with most of the following: Swift and iOS development
  • Kotlin and Android development
  • Mobile application architecture, design patterns, and platform best practices
  • Logging, monitoring, analytics, and performance optimization for mobile applications
  • CI/CD and automated build, test, and release processes for iOS and Android
We are hoping to find someone with as many of the following as possible
  • Strong experience building, maintaining, and evolving production mobile applications on both iOS and Android
  • Experience designing scalable, maintainable mobile architectures and reusable components
  • Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
  • Knowledge of mobile security, networking, performance, and application lifecycle considerations
  • Experience with automated testing and modern mobile development tooling
You are opinionated about what it takes to produce great software but remain receptive to other's ideas.
  • You care about ownership. You proactively seek out bugs and fix them. Occasionally, when bugs find you, you don’t sweep them under the rug.
  • You are experienced with software estimation, often confronted with complexity and uncertainty.
  • You make decisions based on data. You are versed with tools to measure application quality, performance, stability, and user experience.
  • You have worked on large-scale mobile applications in a team environment.
  • You are a good communicator. You are able to present complicated solutions to non-technical audience in a simple and logical way.
How You'll Succeed:

At Loblaw Digital, we seek great people to continually strengthen our culture. We believe great people model our values, are authentic, build trust and make connections.

We're able to keep innovating because our colleagues are passionate about their work and excited about the future of eCommerce.
