Job summary

Government of Alberta – Technology & Innovation is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Specialist/Data Scientist to design and deliver analytical data products that advance Alberta's Data Strategy.

You will work as a technical expert within a cross‑functional team, applying ML, AI, data science, and advanced analytics to support government initiatives and improve services for Albertans.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience with statistical and computer languages (R, Python, SQL).
• 6+ years building analytical/models and preparing data for prescriptive/predictive modelling.
• 6+ years applying AI/ML to data science or analytics, including ML for anomaly detection or predictive monitoring.
• Experience with data analytics approaches and complex statistical modelling.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for strategic data initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define analytical needs and policy objectives.
• Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML to public-sector challenges.
• Develop, train, evaluate, and deploy ML models using appropriate tools.
• Prepare data for modelling and create analytics products, dashboards, and insights.
