Job summary

Orano Canada is seeking a Senior Mine Engineer in Saskatoon to lead Life-of-Mine planning and drive strategic mine design and scheduling. You will mentor planning teams and collaborate with stakeholders across technical, operational, and financial domains to maximize business value.

The role requires extensive underground mining experience, strong analytical and financial modelling skills, and proficiency with Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan, or Ventsim.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining or Geological Engineering; eligible for PE registration with APEGS.
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience at operating mines in planning/supervisory roles.
  • Extensive underground mining experience; strong in operations, engineering and PM.
  • Proficient with Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan or Ventsim.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Life-of-Mine planning and optimization.
  • Direct strategic mine planning studies, including mine design, production scheduling, scenario evaluation, and economic analysis.
  • Collaborate with technical, operational, and financial stakeholders to integrate geological, operational, environmental, and commercial considerations into long‑range plans.

What you’ll accomplish:

Long Term Strategic Mine Planning

  • Lead the development and optimization of Life-of-Mine (LOM) plans, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, reserve management strategies, and business value maximization.
  • Direct strategic mine planning studies, including mine design, production scheduling, scenario evaluation, and economic analysis to support long‑term decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with technical, operational, and financial stakeholders to integrate geological, operational, environmental, and commercial considerations into long‑range plans.
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance on reserve development, project expansions, and growth opportunities, while mentoring planning teams and driving best practices.
Study/Project Work
  • Conduct technical/financial evaluations and trade‑off studies on mining projects (opening or expansions of existing mines)
  • Take an active role in conceptual, pre‑feasibility and feasibility mining studies
  • Lead mining aspects for novel mining method development
  • Assist in construction management activities (e.g. tailings facility)
Life of Mine Plan
  • Develop production and cost (operating, capital and development) schedule scenarios for LOM planning based on Joint Venture’s production schedules and adapting as required
  • Build budget model and production schedule
Joint Venture Monitoring
  • Monitor all mining aspects of Joint Ventures not operated by Orano to ensure they are operated in the best interest of Orano (underground and open pit mines)
  • Provide internal reporting on JV status (studies, projects/construction and operation)
  • Review and share insights on technical choices, budget proposals, projects approach, etc.
  • Participate in working sessions with JV Partners
  • Visit mine sites on a regular basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Mining
  • Support and promote Operational Excellence culture
  • Comply with all Orano health, safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures
  • Promote and adhere to Orano Canada’s values: Safety and Security, Team Spirit and Cohesion, Continuous Improvement, Customer Satisfaction, Ethics, Transparency and Dialogue, Respect and People Development
Qualities and skills we’re seeking:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mining or Geological Engineering preferred) and eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGS
  • At least 15 years of experience at operating mine sites in a planning or supervisory function
  • Extensive experience in underground mining
  • Experience in operations, engineering and project management
  • Familiar with NI‑43‑101 mining standards
  • Familiar with mining software: Deswik, Surpac or Vulcan, Ventsim
  • Demonstrated English technical oral and writing skills, knowledge of French is an asset
  • Effective analytical abilities with proven skills in financial modelling, budgeting and schedule management
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Independent and self‑sufficient, with the ability to manage responsibility, prioritize tasks and make decisions without close supervision
  • Skilled at leading stakeholder communication, ensuring alignment between contractors, consultants, engineers & management
  • Able to identify, analyse and tactfully influence implementation of cost‑saving measures and third‑party projects or production plans
Work Location & Schedule:
  • Saskatoon Corporate Office
  • Occasional visits to mines/mills in Northern Saskatchewan
Salary Range

$127,600 - $150,150

Compensation to be determined based on the selected candidate’s level of skill, education, and experience, and may vary within, the posted salary range.
