Job summary

New Gold Inc. in northwestern Ontario is seeking an experienced Senior Mine Engineer to lead a small team at the Rainy River Mine. You will oversee drill and blast, short-range planning, and EIT mentoring while aligning with budgets and long-range objectives.

The role requires a PEO-registered Ontario engineer with 7+ years in open-pit mining, strong planning skills, MineSight proficiency, and excellent communication. We offer a competitive salary and benefits as part of a comprehensive package.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario in good standing.
  • 7+ years of experience in open pit mine engineering.
  • Strong experience in open pit short-range planning, drill and blast, Wenco and survey.
  • MineSight software proficiency is mandatory.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and detail orientation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, with leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee weekly, monthly, quarterly and LOM plans.
  • Forecast and evaluate costs, engineering and mine planning data.
  • Provide technical direction for mine operations strategy and implementation.
  • Review and implement operational plans and design changes.
  • Review and action improvements to mining operation performance against plans and budget.
  • Prepare monthly cost and performance reports and presentations.
  • Provide technical support where required.
  • Mentor and coach EITs and young engineers.

Rainy River Mine

Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.

The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Schedule: 14x14
Position Reports To: Chief Engineer - Open Pit

The successful candidate will be leading a small team of professionals. Primary tasks include, oversight of the drill and blast teams, short range planner, and dispatch EIT. Other tasks will include assisting with budget planning, strategic planning and managing projects for the operations, as well as technical support, coaching and mentoring to the Engineers in Training and Junior engineers to meet long-range planning objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the preparation of Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and LOM Plans
  • Forecast and evaluate costs, engineering, and mine planning data.
  • Provide technical direction for the mine related to operations strategy and implementation.
  • Review and implement operational plans and design changes.
  • Review and action improvements to mining operation performance against plans and budget.
  • Prepare monthly cost and performance reports and presentations to support planning results.
  • Provide technical support where required.
  • Mentor and coach EIT’s and young engineers, performance evaluation and supervision.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mining engineering or similar field
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and in good standing order with PEO and or eligible for membership with the PEO
  • Over 7 years of experience in mine engineering in an open pit environment.
  • Strong experience in open pit short range planning, drill blast, Wenco and survey.
  • MineSight software skill is a must
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team and leadership skills
  • Strong leadership ability is essential
Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position will be between $120,000.00 - $150,000.00.
