Job summary

Lake Shore Gold seeks a Chief Mine Geologist for the Timmins Bell Creek Mine in Timmins, ON. This full-time role leads underground geology, oversees grade control, and supports reconciliation and planning processes.

The ideal candidate has a B.Sc in Geology, a P.Geo in good standing, 8–10 years of underground gold mining experience, and proven leadership. Eligible to work in Canada.

About The Organization

Lake Shore Gold, a subsidiary of Pan American Silver, is located in Timmins, Ontario. The Bell Creek Complex, located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Timmins, Ontario, consists of an underground mine and processing facility. Mineralization is associated with the Porcupine-Destor fault system within the Abitibi greenstone belt, with ore mined by narrow vein longhole stoping methods. Ore is then transported to surface via a modern one thousand eighty metre deep shaft capable of forty-eight hundred tonnes per day.

The Timmins West mine is located approximately 18 kilometers west of Timmins, Ontario, one of the world’s most prolific gold camps. Mineralization is associated with the Porcupine-Destor fault system within the Abitibi greenstone belt. The Timmins West mine is comprised of the Timmins deposit, the Thunder Creek deposit, and the 144 Gap deposit. All three deposits are interconnected by underground drifts.

About The Opportunity

We are looking to hire a Chief Mine Geologist to join our Timmins Bell Creek Mine in Timmins, ON., on a full-time basis. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8 hour days or 4 on, 3 off, 10 hour days.

Please note that this role is not a camp-based position.

In this position, you will be responsible for leading all underground geology activities at the Timmins West Mine. This includes managing the geology team, overseeing grade control, and having a key role in the reconciliation process. The role also supports both short- and long-range mine planning. The role reports directly to the Mine Manager and has a primary influence in ensuring geological models are accurate, up to date, and effectively integrated into daily and strategic mine planning. The position oversees drilling programs, mapping, sampling, and QA/QC processes, and is accountable for interpreting geological structures and validating the resource model. It also contributes to identifying near-mine exploration targets to support future resource growth. The Chief Geologist is expected to foster a strong safety culture, support the development of geologists and technicians, and maintain high technical standards in alignment with the values of Lake Shore Gold.

  • Manage the system for daily grade control, ore/waste calls underground as well as daily grade estimates for underground work areas. Monitor underground geological activities daily and give instruction and react to unexpected situations
  • Responsible for aspects of occupational health and safety, and environmental matters, over which the individual has control, including adherence to all requirements applicable to Lake Shore Gold Corporation.
  • Responsible for managing the system for the collection of geological data through sampling (chip, muck) and mapping (lithology, structure, mineralization/alteration, etc.) and updating of this information into required databases (sample tracker, mapping in Deswik, etc.) and importation of assays from BC lab into database.
  • Decisions on standards of data collection, including numbers underground samples and details for mapping.
  • Review and approve underground mine layouts.
  • Attend all regular daily and weekly tech services and mine planning meetings.
  • Responsible for geology input to the stope design process and planning with Engineering.
  • Responsible for Mine reconciliation process with Engineering.
  • Review yearly mine plan and approve tonnes and grade forecast for geology. Also, approve 3 month mine plan tonnes and grade for stopes and development.
  • Develop yearly operations and capital drilling schedule and update monthly 3 month drill plan, working with the lead Underground Drill supervising Geologist if appropriate.
  • Yearly Geology Budget proposal and management of the geology Department costs for the Operations and Capital drilling.
  • Input into the interpretations for the litho and mineralization models for the orebody. Laison with Chief Resource Geologist and Underground Drill Geologist/Coordinator.
  • Mentor and develop skills of underground geotechnicians, motivate to achieve goals set annually.
  • Identify and develop exploration targets within and outside the Mine infrastructure.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Compensation

This position offers a salary range of $145,000-175,000/year, based on qualifications and experience.
