Physician leadership opportunity in the heart of Maine!


Position Summary
MaineHealth is seeking an experienced clinical leader to join its executive team at Stephens Hospital, a critical access hospital located in the scenic western foothills of Maine.

Working in partnership with an administrative dyad partner and the hospital CMO, the Senior Medical Director sits on the hospital leadership team and will be responsible for the development of MaineHealth Medical Group clinical, operational, and financial strategies at Stephens Hospital as well as an active leader in regional ambulatory quality, safety, and regulatory affairs and provider recruitment initiatives. The 750-member Stephens Hospital care team includes 45 physicians and APPs who are among the more than 2,500 providers across the MaineHealth Medical Group.

The Senior Medical Director will manage medical and associate medical directors across five clinical specialties, including: internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, and general surgery along with oversight of Stephens Specialty Clinic (oncology, urology, cardiology, pulmonology and ENT). The Senior Medical Director will report directly to the Regional Vice President, Physician and APP Services, Mountain Region and be part of the Stephens Senior Leadership team.

In addition to the administrative responsibilities of the role, the Senior Medical Director will also have a clinical appointment at Stephens Hospital with strong preference for a primary care specialties.

Requirements
1.MD/DO or APP certification required from an accredited program.
2. Licensure in the state of practice, Federal DEA number, Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges, must achieve and maintain Board Certification in respective specialty.
3. Physician with previous leadership experience and exceptional clinical reputation.
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Well-versed in healthcare finance and knowledgeable of practice information technology (ideally Epic).
6. Possesses contemporary market insight regarding the current status, trends, and outlook for the healthcare delivery system.
7. Demonstrated ability to think strategically while remaining operationally and financially grounded.
8. Solid operational and financial skills to ensure that resources are applied in a most effective manner for achieving quality of care and service.
9. Possesses the political, interpersonal and organizational skills to work effectively in a matrix management setting.

10. Action-oriented and results-driven, with a sense of urgency and the ability to instill this in others.
