Job summary

Orion Steel Group in Calgary, AB, invites a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead complex equipment and process projects on site.

You will collaborate with maintenance, operations and design teams to deliver capital projects, write proposals, and ensure designs meet company standards and project objectives.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, 10+ years’ experience in heavy manufacturing, steel experience, and strong CAD and project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; electrical experience preferred.
• 10+ years of experience managing projects involving equipment, buildings, machinery, process piping, cooling systems, and other heavy manufacturing systems; steel experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to bring large projects to completion by aligning operating processes, project objectives, and management.
• Electrical experience with knowledge of machinery, fabrication, welding, hydraulics, machining, and piping.
• Experience with troubleshooting complex manufacturing processes, mechanical systems, and automation controls.
• Mechanical and project management experience and combustion systems experience preferred.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCAD, and project management software; strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide equipment and designs that meet company standards and deliver project objectives.
• Provide technical support to maintenance and operations departments
• Recommend and manage capital projects
• Stay current with company products and manufacturing processes
• Write project proposals including business rules, process descriptions, costs and benefits
• Write requirement specifications and high-level design for projects and plant processes
