Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to plan, organize and execute complex engineering projects within strict time and cost constraints. The role demands designing, modeling and documenting mechanical components, with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic mining environment.

You will prepare technical reports, review vendor proposals, and ensure compliance with codes and standards while supporting construction and commissioning phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5 years of related experience
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 years of related experience
• Experience designing mineral processing facilities for grinding and flotation circuits and conveyors
• Experience in slurry pumping and piping system design
• Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA requirements for material handling
• Experience with Belt Analyst, Pipe-Flo, and AFT Fathom
• Proficiency in PIDs, PFDs, isometrics, BOMs and EWPs
• Experience developing scoping documents, P6 schedules, budgets and staffing plans
• Pipe stress analysis software proficiency
• Interfacing with database design software
• Broad engineering knowledge
• Strong research and analytical ability
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Safety awareness and ability to train/motivate employees
• Experience as Owner’s Representative in capital projects
• Experience with mining/metallurgical facilities
• Advanced degree and/or PE Certification

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, manage and execute mechanical engineering projects within time and cost parameters
• Perform design tasks including modeling, calculations, drawings and specifications
• Prepare and review technical documents and reports to support design decisions
• Participate in project meetings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
• Conduct design reviews and evaluate vendor proposals for codes and standards
• Use engineering software to model, simulate and analyze components
• Assist in resolving technical issues during construction and commissioning
• Improve design processes and share knowledge within the project office
