Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to plan, organize and execute complex engineering projects within strict time and cost constraints. The role demands designing, modeling and documenting mechanical components, with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic mining environment.

You will prepare technical reports, review vendor proposals, and ensure compliance with codes and standards while supporting construction and commissioning phases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5 years of related experience
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 years of related experience
• Experience designing mineral processing facilities for grinding and flotation circuits and conveyors
• Experience in slurry pumping and piping system design
• Knowledge of MSHA and OSHA requirements for material handling
• Experience with Belt Analyst, Pipe-Flo, and AFT Fathom
• Proficiency in PIDs, PFDs, isometrics, BOMs and EWPs
• Experience developing scoping documents, P6 schedules, budgets and staffing plans
• Pipe stress analysis software proficiency
• Interfacing with database design software
• Broad engineering knowledge

What You Will Do

Under general supervision plan, organize, manage, and execute designated mechanical engineering projects and programs, ensuring the successful conclusion of all phases within appropriate time and cost parameters. Perform and oversee execution of engineering design tasks for assigned projects, including modeling, calculations, drawings, and specifications, while maintaining accurate records of design work and revisions throughout the project life cycle. In this role, you develop, prepare, and review technical documentation and reports to support design decisions and project requirements, participate in project meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate engineering solutions into overall project plans, and conduct design reviews and evaluate vendor proposals to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company requirements. As a Senior Engineer of Mechanical Projects, you utilize engineering software and tools to model, simulate, and analyze design components, assist in resolving technical issues during construction and commissioning phases. You also continuously improve design processes and contribute to knowledge sharing within the project office, and perform other duties as requested.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years related experience in engineering or related scientific field; OR


• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline and three (3) years related experience in engineering or related scientific field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with designing, analyzing, and optimizing mineral processing facilities for grinding and flotation circuits and conveyor and bulk material handling systems for mining operations, including review of layouts, equipment sizing and selection, and performance evaluations for mineral processing and material handling


• Experience in design, analysis and slurry pumping and piping systems


• Knowledge of applicable industry standards and safety regulations including MSHA and OSHA requirements for material handling system and design criteria


• Experience with Material Handling software (e.g. Belt Analyst) including ability to interpret results and develop design recommendations


• Experience in analysis of fluids in piping systems (e.g. Pipe-Flo, AFT Fathom) including ability to interpret results and develop design recommendations


• Proficiency with applicable industry standards and Mechanical and Piping engineering design criteria


• Skilled in developing Mechanical and Piping deliverables such as Piping and Instrument Diagrams (PIDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping Isometric and Orthographic drawings, Equipment Datasheets, Bills of Material (BOMs), and Engineering Work Packages (EWPs)


• Experience developing and contributing to development of scoping documents, P6 schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and estimates


• Proficient in pipe stress analysis software including ability to interpret results and develop design recommendations


• Experience interfacing with database design software


• Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering


• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions


• Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written, including the ability to actively listen and adapt behavior and communication style based upon the audience


• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions


• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay-range for this role is currently $145,000 - $190,000 CAD. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
