Tower Engineering Group is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Calgary office. This role blends technical leadership with mentorship, guiding engineers, designers, technologists, and drafters while coordinating workloads and ensuring the Mechanical Department delivers high-quality work.

Qualifications

Job description

Tower Engineering Group is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Calgary office.

This is a senior position within our Mechanical Department that combines technical expertise with a strong focus on mentorship, team development, and leadership. The successful candidate will provide guidance and support to engineers, designers, technologists, and drafting staff while helping coordinate workloads and maintain the technical quality of the department's work.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with and developing people. The ideal candidate will be comfortable mentoring staff, providing technical direction, sharing their experience, and helping team members develop their skills and confidence, while also taking an active role in the design and delivery of mechanical engineering projects.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, designers, technologists, and drafting staff.


• Provide technical guidance and share knowledge and experience with members of the Mechanical Department.


• Help staff develop their technical, project management, and client communication skills.


• Assist with coordinating workloads, project assignments, priorities, and scheduling within the department.


• Provide constructive feedback and support the professional development of team members.


• Encourage collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing within the department.


• Serve as a senior resource for staff when technical or project challenges arise.


• Assist with onboarding and development of new employees.


• Help identify opportunities to improve department standards, processes, quality, and efficiency.


• Work closely with senior management to support the continued development and growth of the Mechanical Department.

Technical & Project Leadership

• Provide senior technical expertise for the design and delivery of building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, building services, process piping, fuel transfer systems, and other mechanical systems.


• Lead mechanical projects from concept and preliminary design through detailed design, tender, construction, and project completion.


• Review designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and other technical documents prepared by department staff.


• Provide technical guidance and assist project teams with resolving complex design and construction issues.


• Coordinate mechanical designs with structural, electrical, architectural, and other project disciplines.


• Conduct site investigations, assessments, construction reviews, and meetings as required.


• Maintain familiarity with applicable building codes, standards, industry practices, and emerging technologies.

Project & Client Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, architects, consultants, and other project stakeholders.


• Assist with project planning, proposals, scope development, budgets, schedules, and fee management.


• Monitor project progress and help ensure commitments to clients are met.


• Identify project risks and issues early and take a proactive role in resolving them.


• Represent Tower Engineering Group professionally in client and project meetings.


• A degree in Mechanical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.


• A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience in the design and construction of building mechanical systems.


• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other building mechanical systems.


• Experience mentoring, supporting, and providing technical direction to other engineering and technical staff.


• The ability and desire to share knowledge and help develop less experienced team members.


• Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, and client relationships.


• Strong organizational and decision-making skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• The ability to work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and senior management.
