GeoSpectrum is growing and has a new career opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer who is passionate about mechanical architectural design and taking projects from concept to delivery.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead and oversee the mechanical design efforts for several of our sonar and marine system projects. You will be responsible for all stages of development, from conceptual design, detailed design, build, testing, and verification.

You will work as part of a team, guiding the work of designers and junior engineers, and interfacing with project managers and other company stakeholders, ensuring the job gets done. You will bring your years of experience to bear, ensuring that development work is executed successfully on systems for use above and below water.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design activities for one or more projects.
  • Develop mechanical architecture of complex systems.
  • Assist management in the delivery of projects, meeting project scope, timeline, budget, and quality standards.
  • Oversee system verification activities and engineering tests (functional, environmental, performance) including participation in field test events including sea trials and subcontractor tests.
  • Lead formal design reviews.
  • Oversee the execution of engineering work packages, working with junior engineers, CAD designers, and technologists to achieve the required results.
  • Implement and manage engineering changes.
  • Develop and review Engineering processes, procedures, and plans.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designer.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, with a focus on technical design.
  • Registered and in good standing with Engineers Nova Scotia
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and implementing robust mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, including materials selection and properties, structural analysis and design, and mechanical mechanisms and powertrains.
  • Effective with engineering documentation, including communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience leading design teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Energetic, motivated, and takes initiative, willing to take risks and think creatively
