Senior Mechanical Designer (Building Engineering)

Role description:

Arcadis is searching for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team. This role involves designing, tendering, and administering mechanical systems such as HVAC, process exhaust, hydronics, plumbing, fire protection, etc. You will work on projects in Toronto and collaborate with other Arcadis offices across North America.

Within our Design & Engineering teams, you'll contribute to creating iconic structures and spaces that transform communities and improve lives. This role is part of our global Places business area, focusing on sustainable, safe, and smart environments where people live, work, learn, and thrive.

Role accountabilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for buildings, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
  • Support process engineering systems in collaboration with mechanical engineers.
  • Participate in site assessments to verify mechanical system performance.
  • Provide technical support to project teams, contractors, and clients.
  • Assist in preparing engineering calculations, reports, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and participate in project planning.
  • Design building systems including HVAC, hydronics, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and automation.
  • Support industrial system design such as compressed air, lubrication, and fueling systems.
  • Analyze heating and cooling loads using computerized methods.
  • Develop engineering study reports and review technical documentation.
  • Facilitate construction documentation and administration, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Conduct quality assurance and foster continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 12+ years of experience in building mechanical systems design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
  • Proficiency with BIM/Revit and AutoCAD; MicroStation is a plus.
  • Experience with ACC and complex project delivery is an asset.
  • P.Eng. designation is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients and teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proven experience collaborating with clients, contractors, and teams.

Additional details:

Salary range: $95,000 - $120,000, based on experience and location.
