Senior Mechanical Designer
Are you a seasoned Mechanical Designer looking for an exciting opportunity to lead cutting-edge projects in HVAC and Plumbing design? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Senior Mechanical Designer. As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing mechanical HVAC and Plumbing systems for diverse new and renovation projects. You will coordinate resources and ensure the successful completion of project design work.
Job Description
- Lead detailed design of various project sizes and delegate specific tasks to team members.
- Supervise mechanical designers and intermediate mechanical designers.
- Provide technical guidance to clients and project sub-consultants.
- Mentor and review work of Mechanical Designers, Intermediate Mechanical Designers, and Mechanical Engineers before submission.
- Attend design and coordination meetings as required.
- Perform construction site reviews and understand construction processes.
- Prepare schematic design and design development reports.
- Analyze client proposals and specifications to find optimal, cost-effective solutions.
- Select mechanical equipment in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction drawings.
- Develop mechanical specifications for books or drawings.
- Peer review colleagues' drawings and designs.
- Deliver fully reviewed projects to the Project Manager for final approval.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines.
- Estimate project design and drafting hours, and communicate resource needs to meet deadlines.
- Identify additional service needs and communicate potential costs to the Project Manager.
- Manage project schedules and budgets, tracking progress and resources.
- Assist with shop drawing reviews, RFIs, design changes, and related costs.
- Strive for high-quality workmanship and timely project delivery through workflow and standard improvements.
Experience & Qualifications
· Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5-10 years of experience or equivalent education/experience.
· Understanding of building systems (architectural, structural, civil, electrical, fire) and their impact on mechanical systems.
· Knowledge of current codes and standards, including plumbing and building codes.
· Proficiency in software such as Microsoft Word, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT.
· Financial understanding related to projects: backlog, WIP, costs vs budgets.
· Ability to schedule, mentor, and manage project teams of 1-3 members across multiple projects.
