Grade : The Position

The Senior Manager, Climate Finance, will support the realization ofan organization-wide strategic initiative to mobilize financial resources for gender responsive, or transformative climate adaptation and mitigation projects. This role involves high-level strategic thinking, technical expertise, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, partners, and government agencies. The role will support the further strengthening and deepeningof Plan Canada’s capacity in innovative financecovering a spectrum of solutions.

What success looks like?

Strategy Development : Lead the development implementation of an organizational climate finance strategy, to diversify the business development pipeline.

Funding Analysis : Provide analysis on funding trends, map funding mechanisms, and identify alignment with the organization's areas of strength and programming models.

Proposal Development : Support country programs in go / no-go decisions, proposal design, and development. Help develop a strategy to unlock funding from Climate Funds to further the mission aligned work of Plan International.

Stakeholder Engagement : Cultivate relationships with climate-specific donors, investors and partners, leveraging existing networks.

Technical Guidance : Offer technical support and guidance on climate projects including assessment, due diligence, financial analysis and scenario-based models, including but not limited to :

  • I mpact bonds for climate and other pay for performance instruments
  • Carbon Credits / Biodiversity Credits
  • Impact investment instruments including blended finance models
  • Insurance for disaster response management

Knowledge Management : Facilitate strategic, informed, and streamlined business development processes by leveraging learning and past performance; Represent Plan International Canada in related international and domestic networks.

Compliance : Strengthen internal capacities, processes and systems within Plan International Canada related to climate finance

As our ideal candidate you will have :

  • Master’s degree in environmental science, Climate Change, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in climate finance, sustainable finance, or related fields including international development
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, investors and partners.
  • Technical expertise in climate change risk analysis, climate resilience, and carbon markets.
  • Knowledge of environmental safeguarding and compliance requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of climate financing landscape.
  • Relevant certifications in climate finance or sustainable finance are a plus.
  • Deep understanding of climate finance mechanisms and sustainable finance practices.
  • Ability to identify and address complex challenges in climate finance.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

The salary range for this position is anticipated to be between $73,000 and $92,000. We comprehensively evaluate a variety of factors to determine fair compensation, including experience, specific job-related skills, and relevant educational or professional training. Additionally, we ensure that compensation is equitable across our team and aligns with current market trends. This role also qualifies for an extensive benefits package and generous paid time off.
