Job summary

BDO Canada LLP in Toronto is seeking a Senior Manager, Assurance – Private Equity to join our team. You will lead audits of PE-backed portfolio companies across manufacturing, consumer products, and technology, delivering high-quality assurance work and shaping project management and staffing.

  • CPA designation.
  • 8+ years of progressive assurance and audit experience.
  • 3-4+ years managing complex consolidations and multi-entity reporting structures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of audit engagements for private equity-backed portfolio companies across our key industries – manufacturing, consumer products, and technology.
  • Lead and review complex year-end audit engagements, ensuring quality and timely delivery, along with a strong client experience.
  • Oversee engagements involving complex consolidations, multi-entity structures, acquisitions, equity instruments, and other financial reporting requirements matters.
  • Provide technical guidance and review financial statements prepared under IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
  • Identify and resolve complex accounting, auditing, and reporting issues in collaboration with clients and internal specialists.
  • Lead audit planning, risk assessment, project management, resourcing, and profitability across multiple engagements.
  • Build trusted relationships with executives, finance leaders, private equity sponsors, and portfolio company management teams.
  • Deliver practical, value-added insights that support audit readiness, reporting quality, governance, and scalable finance processes.
  • Support transaction-driven matters, including first-year audits, opening balances, acquisitions, divestitures, refinancing events, and exit readiness.
  • Participate in business development initiatives, proposal opportunities, and cross-service collaboration to expand relationships with clients and prospects.
  • Communicate proactively with clients and engagement teams on timelines, priorities, risks, and emerging issues.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor managers, senior associates, and staff, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of high-performing audit professionals.
  • Contribute to the continued growth, market positioning, and strategic priorities of the Private Equity audit practice.

Qualifications
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience as a Manager or Senior Manager within a public accounting firm.
  • 8+ years of progressive assurance and audit experience.
  • 3‑4+ years of experience managing complex consolidations and multi‑entity reporting structures.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience auditing private equity‑backed portfolio companies.
  • Experience serving clients in the manufacturing, consumer products, and/or technology sectors.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop engagement teams.
  • Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative leadership approach and commitment to delivering quality client service.

The expected range of compensation for this role is: $ 109,000 to $ 159,000
