Job summary

NTT DATA North America in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to lead design, development, and support of high-volume mainframe systems.

You will mentor teams, drive platform modernization, and partner with operations to ensure reliability, performance, and scalable transaction processing.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, architecture influence, and adherence to engineering standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on COBOL, DB2, VSAM, and JCL experience.
• Experience with high-volume, transaction-intensive mainframe applications.
• Strong knowledge of CICS and Dynamic Transaction Routing.
• Experience with DB2 utilities, File-AID, schedulers, and debugging tools.
• Understanding of distributed applications and system integration.
• Experience with highly available, fault-tolerant, data-driven enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for strategic mainframe initiatives and platform enhancements.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance solutions for mission-critical applications.
• Define and promote engineering standards, best practices, and code quality.
• Mentor and support engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Evaluate existing platform architecture and recommend improvements to meet evolving business needs.
• Partner with Operations to plan infrastructure upgrades, optimize system performance, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve processes, enhance system reliability, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, unit testing, and production support activities.
