Job description

We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, Employment, reporting to the Director of Legal Services – Litigation and Employment. This role can be based at our downtown Montreal, Quebec office or at our Valcourt, Quebec headquarters. The successful candidate will provide legal support to the global HR function concerning all aspects of labour and employment law.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Support HR business partners on labour and employment law issues worldwide, including labour relations and health and safety.
2. Manage employment claims and litigation, liaising with external legal counsel as necessary.
3. Represent and defend BRP in mediations, audits, and investigations.
4. Conduct internal investigations related to employment, ethics, and compliance complaints.
5. Participate in employee training to promote legal compliance and best practices.
6. Draft and update workplace policies, employment agreements, notices, and other HR documents.
7. Monitor legislative changes and communicate their implications to the HR team.
8. Collaborate with the compliance and data privacy teams on employment-related issues.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

1. 6 to 8 years of experience as in-house counsel or in private practice, with a focus on labour and employment law.
2. Extensive experience in both unionized and non-unionized environments, including health and safety regulations.
3. Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills for managing complex legal matters.
4. Curiosity, discipline, autonomy, and initiative.
5. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and communicate impactfully across organizational levels.
