Citi is seeking a Senior Java Developer to own and modernize Credit Risk and Capital Markets platforms, crafting cloud-native architectures and high-performance systems. Responsibilities

• Design and deliver enterprise-scale Credit Risk and Capital Markets systems across full SDLC, from architecture to production deployment.
• Lead re-engineering of monolithic apps into modern cloud-native microservices ensuring scalability and regulatory compliance.
• Define and drive architectural decisions for platform modernization including cloud migration and distributed data processing.
• Build low-latency, highly available systems meeting security, performance, and operational stability standards.
• Collaborate with global engineers, business analysts, DevOps, and support teams to deliver solutions across domains.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers to raise standards and production-quality delivery.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted tooling, to improve efficiency.

Citi is looking for a Senior Java Developer to take technical ownership of business-critical Credit Risk and Capital Markets platforms, driving the modernization of large-scale systems into resilient, cloud-native architectures. In this Vice President-level role, you will operate as a senior individual contributor and technical leader - shaping engineering standards, guiding platform evolution, and delivering high-impact solutions across a globally distributed team. If you bring deep Java expertise, Capital Markets domain knowledge, and a drive to solve complex engineering challenges at scale, this role offers the scope and influence to make a real difference.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver high-performance, enterprise-scale Credit Risk and Capital Markets systems across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture through production deployment.
• Lead the re-engineering of complex, monolithic applications into modern, cloud-native microservices, ensuring scalability, resilience, and regulatory compliance at every stage.
• Define and drive architectural decisions for platform modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and the adoption of distributed data processing technologies.
• Build and sustain low-latency, highly available systems that meet enterprise-grade standards for security, performance, and operational stability.
• Partner with a global team of software engineers, business analysts, DevOps, and support functions to deliver quality solutions across Capital Markets and Risk domains.
• Mentor and develop mid-level and junior engineers, raising engineering standards and enabling the team to consistently deliver production-grade solutions.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies - including AI-assisted development tooling - to improve engineering efficiency and delivery quality.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 6+ years of experience in application development or systems analysis, with a track record of delivering large-scale, complex technology initiatives.
• Deep expertise in Core Java, including object-oriented design principles, concurrent and multi-threaded programming, JVM memory management, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience re-engineering monolithic applications into microservices architectures, and deploying containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Practical knowledge of distributed systems and data processing frameworks such as Apache Flink, alongside distributed caching technologies such as Redis, Oracle Coherence, or GridGain.
• Database experience spanning relational platforms (preferably Oracle) and NoSQL technologies (preferably MongoDB), with the ability to design for scale and reliability.
• Proven domain knowledge in Capital Markets, including Derivatives, Credit Risk, and Risk Management, with experience supporting risk-sensitive, business-critical platforms.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent practical experience in a comparable role.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with SDLC and DevOps tooling including Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, SonarQube, and JIRA, with familiarity in secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with Linux and Unix environments, including scripting for automation and operational tasks.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Devin to accelerate engineering delivery.
• Recognised subject matter expertise in one or more areas of application development, with a demonstrated ability to influence architectural and strategic decisions at a senior level.
