Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience developing backend applications in Java
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles and common design patterns
• Experience working with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and participating in code reviews
• Strong debugging, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience working within Agile software delivery teams
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring-based technologies
• Build and maintain APIs and microservices that support high-volume, business-critical applications
• Work across the software delivery lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, code review and production support
• Collaborate closely with developers, Business Systems Analysts, Technical Leads and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Apply sound object-oriented design principles, engineering practices and design patterns to produce maintainable, high-quality software
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and services within complex enterprise environments
• Work with relational databases and data persistence technologies
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, debugging and performance optimization
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, development processes and delivery effectiveness
• Using modern development tools and exploring AI-assisted engineering techniques to improve productivity and quality across the software development lifecycle

We’re looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer to join our team. This opportunity is open to candidates interested in either permanent or contract employment.

You’ll work as part of an experienced delivery team building and enhancing enterprise applications for a large financial services client. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with strong Java backend expertise who is comfortable working in complex enterprise environments and collaborating closely with technical and business stakeholders.

As an AI-native organization, we’re also looking for engineers who are interested in how AI can improve the software delivery lifecycle. Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar tools is an asset.

While working within a team in Agile environment, you will be:

Designing, developing and enhancing scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring-based technologies

Building and maintaining APIs and microservices that support high-volume, business-critical applications

Working across the software delivery lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, code review and production support
