Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior backend engineer to design, develop and enhance scalable applications using Java and Spring-based technologies. You will build RESTful APIs and microservices for high-volume, business-critical systems and collaborate across design, development, testing, and production support.

You will apply OOP, design patterns, work with SQL and cloud-native architectures, participate in code reviews and automated tests, and help improve engineering practices and delivery.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in CS, engineering or related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of professional software development experience with Java backend.
Strong Spring and Spring Boot experience and REST API design.
Experience with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts.
Experience with Git-based source control and modern development practices.
Experience with automated testing, code reviews and Agile delivery.
Strong debugging and analytical skills; effective in cross-functional teams.
Banking/payments/financial services experience and high-volume systems.
Cloud-native development, event-driven or distributed architectures.
Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot) is a plus.

Requirements

5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience developing backend applications in Java
Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles and common design patterns
Experience working with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts
Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices
Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and participating in code reviews
Strong debugging, problem-solving and analytical skills
Experience working within Agile software delivery teams
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
Previous experience within banking, payments or financial services
Experience building or supporting high-volume, transaction-oriented systems
Experience with cloud-native application development and modern enterprise architectures
Experience with messaging, event-driven architectures or distributed systems
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar
Interest in applying AI across requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, debugging and code review
Experience working in consulting or client-facing delivery environments
