Job summary

Windwalker Group seeks an experienced IT Project Manager to ensure alignment with federal guidelines and drive successful outcomes in a matrixed environment.

The candidate will lead projects across traditional and Agile lifecycles, manage scope, schedules, budgets, and stakeholder communications while producing PM artifacts per PMO standards.

Qualifications

  • Active Q clearance or TS/SCI required.
  • Minimum of five years of hands-on IT project management experience in the Federal Government.
  • PMP certification required.
  • Experience with both waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong oral and written English communication skills.
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex programs to achieve defined goals.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Project, Excel, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact for customers' Federal IT Program Managers and manage coordination.
  • Oversee IT projects using traditional waterfall and Agile lifecycles.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, risks, and deliverables in line with stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop PMO-compliant artifacts (charters, plans, schedules, requirements, reports).
  • Collaborate across matrixed teams to coordinate resources for successful execution.
  • Create and manage project documentation, reports, and presentations with MS Office tools.
  • Provide updates, insights, and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Leverage strategic thinking, multi-tasking, negotiation, conflict and time management to drive success.

Job description

This role involves managing high-level IT projects, ensuring alignment with federal guidelines, and driving successful outcomes within a matrixed environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT project management, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering results in both traditional and Agile project environments.

Location: Hybrid position from the Washington, D.C., Denver, CO, or Albuquerque, NM.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the single point of contact for customers' Federal IT Program Managers, ensuring seamless communication and project coordination.
  • Oversee and execute IT projects following both traditional waterfall and Agile life cycle methodologies.
  • Effectively manage project schedules, budgets, risks, and deliverables while ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop clear, complete project management artifacts (charters, plans, schedules, requirements, and reports) in accordance with PMO standards and lifecycle processes.
  • Collaborate across matrixed teams to coordinate resources and ensure successful project execution.
  • Utilize advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project, Excel, and Visio skills to create and manage project documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leaders, delivering updates, insights, and recommendations.
  • Leverage expertise in strategic thinking, multi-tasking, negotiation, conflict management, and time management to drive project success.

Qualifications Required:

  • Clearance: Must possess an active Q clearance or TS/SCI.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on IT project management experience in the Federal Government, including projects utilizing both waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Certifications: Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Skills:
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English.
    • Experience working within a matrixed organizational structure.
    • Proven ability to plan and execute complex programs to achieve defined goals.
    • Intermediate to expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Project, Excel, and Visio.
    • Strong skills in strategic thinking, negotiation, conflict management, time management, and planning.

Preferred:

  • Additional certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM),PRINCE2,or SAFe Agile certification.
  • Experience managing IT projects in a government or defense-related environment.
  • Knowledge of federal IT standards, policies, and frameworks.
