Job summary

CPA Ontario seeks a Senior Investigator (Forensic Accountant) to lead complex investigations for the Professional Conduct Committee. Appointed to guide investigations, you’ll mentor staff, develop strategies, and coordinate with experts in enforcement matters.

You will prepare evidentiary briefs, provide litigation support, and deliver training. A CPA in good standing with MFAcc/DIFA or equivalent is required, with 10+ years of forensic accounting experience.

  • Supervise, coach, and delegate work to Investigation Specialists and Coordinators to support effective case management and team development.
  • Contribute to departmental projects, strategic initiatives, training programs, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and deliver training, presentations, orientation sessions, and resource materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental planning, process enhancements, and cross-functional initiatives to strengthen investigative practices and outcomes.

About This Opportunity:

CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Senior Investigator (Forensic Accountant) who will be responsible for carrying out investigations required for the Professional Conduct Committee (“PCC”) and as appointed by Counsel to the PCC. this role, you will be appointed to lead investigations or assist in investigations with other Investigators. As a leader within the Enforcement group you will participate in and lead projects and initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing:

To Be Successful You Need:
  • CPA designation in good standing, with successful completion of the Master of Forensic Accounting (MFAcc), Diploma in Investigative & Forensic Accounting (DIFA), or an equivalent forensic accounting credential.
  • 10+ years of progressive forensic accounting and investigative experience, with a proven ability to independently lead complex investigations from planning through to final report completion.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigative interviews, gathering and analyzing evidence, preparing investigation reports, and providing expert testimony in legal or regulatory proceedings.
  • Strong understanding of public accounting practices, with the ability to apply professional accounting expertise, investigative techniques, and sound judgment to complex matters.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk, identify issues, and draw well-supported conclusions.
  • Proven ability to exercise significant professional judgment and carry out investigative responsibilities with professionalism, integrity, and due care.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, deliver presentations, build relationships, and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead multiple investigations simultaneously while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint, as well as experience using e-discovery and investigation management tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams, contribute to departmental initiatives, and support broader organizational objectives.

Salary range
  • The starting salary for this position is $162,100 per annum. The salary offered will be based on your qualifications, experience, and internal parity. Exceptions may be considered with further review.
