SENIOR INVESTIGATOR ROLE OVERVIEW
Canadian Cancer Trials Group Operations and Statistics Centre at Queen’s University

The Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) is a cooperative oncology group that designs and administers clinical trials in cancer therapy, supportive care, and prevention across Canada and internationally. We support a collaborative network of researchers, physicians, scientists, and statisticians internationally recognized for finding the treatments that give people with cancer longer, better quality lives.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking an outstanding and visionary cancer trialist for the position of Senior Investigator (SI). Expertise in cancer clinical trial methods and conduct is required. Interest/expertise in investigational new drugs, symptom science/supportive care, patient reported outcomes, application of real world evidence and clinical trials is desirable but not required. As one of our Senior Investigators you will be co-principal investigator of individual trials, and leader within the CCTG program and the CCTG scientific committees. Senior Investigators also have Faculty appointments at Queen’s University.

The successful candidates will join an internationally recognized group of cancer trial experts. They will participate in scientific and policy decision-making of the CCTG, provide scientific and administrative leadership to the overall scientific strategy of the group, identify new research opportunities, contribute to CCTG / trial activities within an inclusive, diverse, collaborative, and healthy work environment. Senior Investigators are leaders within the scientific committees in their areas of responsibility and mentors/teachers for students and trainees. MD Senior Investigators have the opportunity for limited clinical practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, with CCTG Scientific Committee Chairs and Committees the development of research proposals and trials that align with the Committee and CCTG priorities.
  • Provide medical and scientific oversight of clinical trials including eligibility, safety, analyses, and publication.
  • Contribute to the development of the strategic goals of CCTG, including cancer trials, education, trial methodology and participant engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD (or equivalent) or PhD.
  • MD (or equivalent) candidates should have specialty qualifications in an oncology related discipline such as medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, or hematology.
  • MD (or equivalent) candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Graduate or fellowship training in a relevant field, such as, clinical epidemiology, clinical pharmacology, clinical trials, is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant field.
  • Meet the criteria for appointment to an appropriate Department at Queen’s University.
