Job summary

Hatch in Mississauga, Ontario, seeks a Senior/Intermediate Civil Engineer to lead civil projects across mining, energy, and infrastructure. You will guide site preparation, bulk earthworks, drainage, and road design, overseeing design reviews and QA/QC from concept to completion.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree with P.Eng (Alberta preferred) and 10+ years in heavy industrial settings. PMP is a plus; mentoring junior staff is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level Civil Engineering degree required with professional registration (P.Eng preferred in AB).
• 10+ years of experience in mining, energy, infrastructure or heavy industrial projects.
• Proven leadership of civil engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of site grading, earthworks, drainage and road design; PMP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering projects for mining, energy, infrastructure, and heavy industrial facilities from design through completion.
• Perform civil design activities related to site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, and bulk earthworks.
• Oversee the design of roads, plant roads, and site drainage systems.
• Provide technical leadership and discipline oversight for assigned project scopes.
• Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and technical deliverables.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of engineering calculations, contract documents, and design packages.
• Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance through drawing checks and design verification.

A typical day:

• Lead civil engineering projects for mining, energy, infrastructure, and heavy industrial facilities from design through completion.

Successful candidates will have:

• Civil Engineering degree from a recognized engineering program; P.Eng. designation in Alberta preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in mining, energy, infrastructure, or other heavy industrial project environments
• Proven experience leading and managing civil engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong project management background on mid- to large-scale projects; PMP designation is an asset.
• Expertise in site grading, bulk earthworks, drainage systems, stormwater management, and road design.
• Experience with sanitary sewer design, hydrology, hydraulics, and earth structure engineering.
• Thorough understanding of civil engineering design processes and proficiency with civil design software.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively within collaborative project teams.
