Job summary

Hatch in Calgary is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead civil projects for mining, energy and infrastructure, handling site preparation, grading, drainage and roads.

You will mentor junior engineers, ensure QA/QC, and collaborate with project managers and multi-discipline teams to deliver safe, innovative, and sustainable solutions for our clients.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree from a recognized program.
• Licensed Engineer in Alberta preferred.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience in mining, energy or infrastructure.
• Drainage design, storm sewers design, and storm management.
• Hydrology and hydraulics.
• Strong understanding of the design process and civil design software packages.
• Experience in bulk earthworks, site grading, storm drainage, access and haul roads, and earth structures for large projects.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and time.
• Experience leading, mentoring and motivating junior civil engineers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; self-motivated and driven.

Responsibilities

• Leading the civil project team through to completion of assigned projects in bulk earthworks, site drainage, roads and earth structures design.
• QA/QC of design calculations and contract documents.
• Assuming responsibilities of discipline practice on assigned project scope.
• Working collaboratively with project managers and multi-discipline design teams.
• Quality control – drawing and calculations checking and verification.

Hatch has an opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to work on several ongoing projects from our Calgary office. This person will for perform general civil engineering and design activities involving site preparation, grading, drainage, roads, paving, etc. for mining and heavy industrial projects. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leading the civil project team through to completion of assigned projects in areas of bulk earthworks, site drainage, mine and plant roads and earth and mine tailings structures design.
• QA/QC of design calculations and contract documents.
• Assuming responsibilities of discipline practice on assigned
  project scope.
• Working collaboratively with the project managers and multi-discipline design teams.
• Quality control - Drawing and calculations checking and verification.

Qualifications:

• Civil Engineering degree from a recognized engineering program
• Licensed Engineer within the province of Albertapreferred
• Minimum 7 years of relevant industry experience (i.e. mining, energy or infrastructure)
• Drainage design, storm sewers design, and storm management
• Hydrology and hydraulics
• Thorough understanding of the design process including the application of civil design software packages.
• Previous design experience in bulk earthworks, site grading, storm drainage, access and haul roads and earth structures for large size projects.
• Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring and motivating junior civil engineers
• Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills; will be self-motivated, quick to deliver on projects
• Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
